About The Position

The Manager of the Houston Fabrication Shop will provide leadership and oversight of all shop operations, including the development and implementation of efficient, sustainable business processes and systems. This role is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing fabrication and repair work on structures, tanks, and other oilfield equipment, with a strong emphasis on safety, quality, and operational excellence. The position reports directly to the Director of the Houston Rig-Up Yard. Collaborate with Management and Human Resources to develop and implement flexible workforce strategies that address the challenges of recruiting and retaining fabrication shop personnel in a highly cyclical industry environment. Develop fabrication procedures and establish clear quality standards; implement robust Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) processes to ensure all work is compliant. Develop supply chain and procurement operations to support the fabrication facility. Work with Engineering to ensure an efficient method of drawing management is deployed, including methods to capture anomalies or errors in drawings and have them corrected. Champion a culture that is committed to maintaining the highest safety standards and adhering to all Company HSE policies. Focus on continuous improvement, identifying ways to increase operational efficiency and reduce costs while maintaining the highest quality standards. Demonstrate strong problem solving skills; effectively work under pressure and establish a sense of urgency with time sensitive project deliverables. Implement and maintain preventive maintenance programs for facility assets. Oversee fabrication shop personnel and operations on a daily basis to provide work assignments and ensure materials are available for job completion. Coordinate the proper utilization of third party contractors and services. Maintain an appropriate level of spare and replacement parts inventory to support shop operations. Develop, manage, and report on all aspects of the facility budget. Provide timely reports on all shop projects with estimated completion time(s). Evaluate and review shop personnel as required by company policy; review personnel assignments for work quality and follow-up with performance improvement. Requirements

  • Knowledge and experience fabricating multiple types of structures, tanks, and other oilfield equipment.
  • Effectively lead, manage, and develop employees.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with industry and quality standards (ISO, API, OSHA, AWS, ASQ).
  • Working knowledge of basic welding metallurgy and thermal heat treatment.
  • Knowledge of Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS).
  • Knowledge of procurement and supply chain management for sourcing of material.
  • Strong computer skills within MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

  • HS Diploma or GED.
  • 7+ years of experience in a fabrication facility making heavy structural, piping, tanks, skids and pressure vessels, or relevant similar experience.
  • 3+ years of supervisory experience over skilled and unskilled trade workers.
  • Proven experience at reading fabrication drawings and ISOs.
  • Must have and maintain a valid state-issued driver’s license and be eligible to drive Company vehicle including ability to meet requirements of Company’s Vehicle Use Agreement and Driving Policy.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in industrial engineering, business administration or similar.
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish).
  • Experience in relevant fabrication skilled trades.
