About The Position

Etsy is seeking a highly analytical manager to lead the Seller Retention & Engagement Marketing (REM/CRM) team. The team owns seller communications across email, push, and other owned channels, helping sellers get started, grow, and remain successful on the marketplace. The manager will lead a cross-functional team spanning lifecycle marketing, strategy and planning, operations, and development; set how the team delivers against seller priorities; turn those priorities into quarterly plans; and establish operating practices that enable relevant, timely communications without over-messaging sellers. The role sits at the intersection of lifecycle marketing, seller education, product, and analytics. It calls for someone who can represent the seller within Marketing, identify meaningful signals in detailed analysis, and make sound decisions when data is incomplete. The team delivers personalized communications at scale through Braze and other owned channels, partnering with Seller Content, Community, and Product Marketing to reflect Etsy’s seller voice and tone. The role emphasizes accurate measurement, honest performance reporting, experimentation, and learning. The manager will own seller lifecycle strategy, planning, operations, and execution; develop team members; and oversee a lifecycle portfolio spanning onboarding, growth, peak season, reactivation, and policy or fee changes. They will define seller segments and personalized journeys, connect communication metrics to incremental seller outcomes, oversee quality and compliance in Braze, and align work with cross-functional stakeholders. Duties may change from time to time at Etsy’s discretion, subject to applicable local law. Candidates are prioritized if they are within commuting distance of Etsy’s Brooklyn office. Depending on proximity, team members are expected to attend the office once or twice per week. Remote candidates outside commuting distance may be considered case by case, with occasional office travel expected. Compensation includes base salary, an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and benefits. Salary depends on location, skills, and experience; pay zones are Geo-1 (New York City metropolitan area, San Francisco Bay Area, and Seattle metropolitan area) and Geo-2 (other U.S. locations), but salary ranges are not provided.

Requirements

  • Direct experience in B2B marketing or marketing to the supply side of a marketplace, such as sellers, hosts, drivers, creators, or merchants.
  • Highly analytical, with a record of using data to set strategy, size opportunities, and make prioritization trade-offs.
  • At least 7 years of experience in lifecycle, CRM, or retention marketing, including end-to-end campaigns from strategy through measurement.
  • Hands-on experience designing and interpreting experiments, including holdout, A/B, or multivariate tests; sound judgment about incrementality, cohort quality, retention, and lifetime value rather than delivery or click metrics alone.
  • Comfort working directly with data, including SQL and Cursor, or a strong working partnership with analytics teams.
  • At least 2 years of people-management experience and a record of developing and retaining strong teams.
  • Hands-on experience with a marketing automation platform, preferably Braze, including segmentation, personalization, and deliverability.
  • Working knowledge of how AI can automate lifecycle work, such as copy drafting and QA, audience building, reporting, and workflow automation, and good judgment about where human review is needed.
  • Experience building processes and quality standards that increase team speed without sacrificing quality.
  • Success partnering across Content, Product, Engineering, and Analytics, and influencing stakeholders without direct authority.
  • Bias for action and ability to turn detailed analysis into a clear recommendation when data is incomplete.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a two-sided marketplace with a large, diverse, global seller base, including localization.
  • Experience managing a program budget and reporting ROI.
  • Familiarity with feature adoption analysis and churn prevention for business customers.
  • An entrepreneurial mindset, including enjoyment of building structure and finding creative solutions with limited resources.
  • Passion for Etsy’s mission to keep commerce human and support the creativity of small business owners.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the team responsible for seller lifecycle strategy and planning, operations, and execution, including coaching, goal setting, performance feedback, and equitable hiring, onboarding, and promotion practices.
  • Translate annual seller marketing priorities into a quarterly roadmap with clear KPIs and report progress to senior leaders.
  • Manage the lifecycle portfolio, including inventory, relevance, prioritization, and per-seller communication frequency across onboarding, growth, peak season, reactivation, and policy or fee changes.
  • Define seller segments and develop targeted, personalized journeys across email and other owned channels.
  • Build a measurement approach connecting reach, delivery, engagement, and downstream seller behavior to incremental value, using holdouts and sound experiments rather than relying on opens and clicks alone.
  • Oversee execution in Braze, including segmentation, journey design, quality assurance, and deployment, with high standards for quality and compliance.
  • Align work across Seller Content, Product, Engineering, Analytics, and Customer Support; communicate performance, risks, and trade-offs to stakeholders.
  • Foster a culture of testing and learning that informs Etsy’s investment in seller communications.
