About The Position

PowerCo Canada Inc. is seeking a skilled Process Development Electrode Manager, to join our team for the battery cell production line in St. Thomas. In this role, you will be responsible for proposing, developing, presenting, and coordinating process engineering concepts for cell production, involved in the process implementation, development, yield enhancement, SOP and series production activities of battery cell factories. The Process Development Manager for the Electrode Department will be responsible for managing and optimizing all processes related to mixing, coating, calendering, slitting, and e-baking within the battery plant. This role will oversee the Process Engineer teams dedicated to these critical operations, ensuring efficient and high-quality production while driving continuous improvement initiatives. The successful candidate will play a key role in scaling up production, improving yields, and maintaining close collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure the success of the manufacturing process for battery electrodes. This position is in-person and located in the charming town of St. Thomas ON.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in in electrical, mechanical, materials, chemical or electrochemical engineering, or a related major.
  • 7+ years of experience in lithium-ion battery design, development, prototyping, or manufacturing, ideally within a global organization.
  • Strong understanding of the electrode manufacturing process.
  • Familiarity with data collection and analysis and statistical process control (SPC)
  • Proficient in manufacturing feasibility, method plan validation, design principles, measurement process validation, FMEA, MES and DOE .
  • Familiarity with analytical software and programming languages (e.g. JMP, Minitab, MATLAB, Python etc.)
  • Ability to follow through and make significant progress in a fast pace, dynamic environment.

  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across departments.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in initial phase of a battery cell production plant would be considered an asset.
  • Working experience with automotive OEMs is an asset.
  • 6 sigma green belt certificate will be plus
  • Experience in process development, optimization, and scale-up from pilot to full production is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the Process Engineering teams responsible for mixing, coating, calendering, slitting, and e-baking.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and performance management to team members, ensuring a high-performing team culture.
  • Set clear objectives and key performance indicators (KPIs) for the team to achieve production and quality goals.
  • Oversee the development, optimization, and scaling of the electrode manufacturing processes, ensuring high efficiency, consistency, and quality.
  • Implement process improvements and corrective actions to address yield issues, production inefficiencies, or quality deviations.
  • Collaborate with the R&D and production teams to transition new products and processes from development to full-scale manufacturing.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the electrode processes to enhance production efficiency, reduce cycle times, and improve yields.
  • Utilize data analysis and statistical process control (SPC) to monitor and optimize process performance.
  • Ensure alignment with industry best practices and innovative technologies to maintain competitiveness.
  • Collaborate with the maintenance, quality assurance, and production departments to address any technical or operational challenges.
  • Work closely with suppliers and equipment vendors to ensure proper specification and operation of production machinery.
  • Partner with the Safety and Environmental teams to ensure all processes comply with relevant regulations and safety standards.
  • Manager and manage process development projects, including the evaluation and implementation of new equipment, technologies, or methodologies.
  • Ensure timely project delivery while managing resources, budgets, and schedules.
  • Provide regular updates and reports to senior management on project status and process performance.
