About The Position
The Manager, Platform Engineering is responsible for the overall management, design, administration, and optimization of platform infrastructure, storage, backup, and network systems supporting manufacturing and business operations at Hyundai AutoEver America’s Joliet plant. The role provides guidance and direction to technical staff to support business objectives and maintain high availability of plant operations. The manager leads the platform engineering team and day-to-day plant IT operations, including incident, problem, and change management; service levels; and 24x7 operational readiness across platform, storage, backup, and network services. The role oversees Windows and Linux server environments, virtualization and compute infrastructure, HPE Nimble/Alletra storage, Veeam Backup & Replication, and Cisco network devices. It also directs IT management processes aligned with ITIL best practices and coordinates solutions for plant operations. This position manages onshore and offshore platform and infrastructure engineers and the work efforts of supervisors and individual contributors. It has responsibilities for hiring, firing, performance appraisals, and pay reviews, and requires on-call availability 24x7 as well as an onsite rotation for P1/P2 major incident management and emergency response.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree preferred or equivalent work experience, including 6+ years of experience in Information Technology.
- 10 years of experience managing a technical support or infrastructure team.
- Experience leading a team in the integration and support of Windows and Linux (RedHat/CentOS) server environments and virtualization platforms.
- Hands-on experience managing HPE Nimble/Alletra storage and Veeam Backup & Replication.
- Strong working knowledge of Cisco network devices, including routing, switching, and firewalls.
- 7+ years of experience managing compute, storage, backup, and network infrastructure.
- 2+ years of management experience.
Nice To Haves
- Prior experience supporting a manufacturing or plant environment.
- ITIL certification.
- AWS and/or Azure certification.
Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor the platform engineering team in planning, operating, and troubleshooting the Joliet plant’s infrastructure and operational workload.
- Lead day-to-day IT operations for the Joliet plant, including incident, problem, and change management, service levels, and 24x7 operational readiness across platform, storage, backup, and network services.
- Guide technical solutions to install, upgrade, secure, tune, monitor, and maintain Windows and Linux server environments and their underlying virtualization and compute infrastructure.
- Oversee administration, capacity planning, and performance optimization of HPE Nimble/Alletra storage and data protection using Veeam Backup & Replication.
- Direct management, configuration, and support of Cisco network devices, including routers, switches, and firewalls, to ensure secure and reliable plant connectivity.
- Identify program needs and coordinate solutions and support for plant operations.
- Design and oversee efficient IT management processes aligned with ITIL best practices.
- Identify and resolve user and customer issues impacting plant operations.
- Provide 24x7 on-call operational support and participate in an onsite rotation for P1/P2 major incident management and emergency response.
- Manage onshore and offshore platform and infrastructure engineers, including the work efforts of supervisors and individual contributors.
- Handle hiring, firing, performance appraisals, and pay reviews.
