About The Position

This role serves as the Pharmacist in Charge, ensuring compliance with State Board of Pharmacy, CMS, FDA, HRSA, and other regulatory organization’s requirements. The Manager-Pharmacy 340B Program oversees daily operational, clinical, and personnel activities to maintain high standards of patient care and service. This position monitors quality metrics, implements continuous improvement initiatives, supports accreditation standards (URAC, ACHC, etc.), and ensures documentation is current and audit ready. The role executes operational plans and shifts workload to ensure smooth day-to-day specialty pharmacy operations.

Requirements

Pharmacy degree from an accredited School of Pharmacy
California Board of Pharmacy License
Three (3) years of specialty and retail pharmacy experience
One (1) year of supervisory experience
Ability to adapt to changing responsibilities, environments and processes
Ability to communicate with patients, healthcare professionals, and staff to ensure clear and accurate exchange of information
Ability to delegate tasks effectively, optimize team productivity and ensure alignment with organizational goals and objectives

Ability to oversee inventory management, medication preparation and dispensing, and medication administration
Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time efficiently to meet deadlines

Knowledge and ability to apply age-specific principles of pharmacology
Knowledge of the pharmaceutical agents, specialty pharmaceuticals, and investigational drugs used throughout the institution

Proficiency in assessing the appropriateness of medication use to optimally and cost-effectively treat the condition of the patient
Proficiency in complying with organizational P&P, State and Federal healthcare laws, including USP 797 standards, specialty pharmacy and 340B
Proficiency in detecting, preventing, and reporting adverse drug events and medication errors
Proficiency in educating the patient and healthcare team members on the appropriate and cost-effective use of medications
Proficiency in ensuring the safety use of medications
Proficiency in interdisciplinary problem solving and interactive team building skills
Solid problem solving and data driven decision making capabilities
Strong operational execution skills with the ability to translate strategy into action
Strong time and resource management with attention to accuracy and process integrity
Strong understanding of the outpatient pharmacy workflow and prescription processing lifecycle, including prescription intake and data entry, insurance adjudication, management of prior authorizations and claim rejections, resolution of payer-related issues, responding to clinical inquiries and final prescription verification

Responsibilities

Oversees daily operational, clinical and personnel activities to maintain high standards of patient care and service.
Monitors quality metrics and implements continuous improvement initiatives.

Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies and takes action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violations.
Oversees operations, identifies workflow improvement opportunities and supports staff in maintaining efficient throughput and high-quality patient care.
Develops and maintains a strong working relationship with the organization’s specialty pharmacy partner; communicates regularly with specialty pharmacy partner leadership and operational teams, coordinates issue resolution, monitors service performance, supports implementation of process improvements and ensures alignment between organizational goals and partner-supported specialty pharmacy services.
Oversees departmental quality assurance activities and reports findings to pharmacy director and Hospital QA quarterly.
Provides direct supervision to assigned pharmacy personnel; assists with scheduling of staff.
Performs annual employee evaluations annually and following probation period.
Initiates disciplinary actions and ensures they are appropriate and consistent.
Performs and meets all criteria as a Staff Pharmacist and Clinical Pharmacist.
Develops, reviews and updates, as appropriate, departmental policies and procedures.
Assists with maintenance of formulary and drug administration protocols.
Provides pharmaceutical care appropriate to patients within the hospital setting.
Respects and maintains confidentiality of patient records and department business concerns.
Responds to concerns from nursing staff and administration related to pharmacy services.
Assists Information Systems Department in implementation of technology for pharmaceutical care for inpatient services.
Assists in interviewing, hiring, training, evaluating, disciplining, and counseling staff members, preparing schedules, and maintaining acceptable productivity levels for area.
Assists with pharmacy residency-related tasks (including precepting).
Supports organization's preparedness for regulatory and quality measures.
Leads projects supporting clinical pharmacy services related to organizational needs.
Acts as an operational or clinical pharmacist as needed to support daily workflow.
Performs other duties as assigned.
