About The Position

The Landline Company is revolutionizing air travel by bridging the gap between regional communities and major airline hubs. They partner with top airlines like American, Air Canada, Delta, and Jet Blue to offer innovative multimodal connections across North America. They’ve launched a first of its kind remote terminal checkpoint to expand the reach of major metro airports into local neighborhood checkpoints. Their luxury motorcoaches replace short flights with a faster, more sustainable alternative—reducing costs, addressing pilot shortages, and enhancing passenger journeys. This role is for a Manager, People Operations to be a driver of the People Operations function across the U.S. and Canada. Reporting to the Director of People Operations, this individual will personally handle employee relations, investigations, promotions, corrective actions, new market launches, separations, leaves, and legal compliance, while keeping payroll, benefits, and employee records accurate and up to date. This is an individual contributor and people leader who loves being close to the work, takes pride in getting the details right, and wants to help bring the People strategy to life.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of progressive experience in human resources or people operations, including at least 3 years focused on employee relations, investigations, and compliance in a frontline non-exempt environment
  • Experience in people management with a hands-on, execution-focused approach and the organization to manage a high volume of work and competing deadlines
  • Strong working knowledge of U.S. employment law (FMLA, I-9, workers’ compensation, unemployment); experience with Canadian and Québec requirements (including CNESST) strongly preferred
  • Proven experience conducting workplace investigations and leading difficult conversations, including corrective actions, terminations, and layoffs
  • Excellent judgment and discretion when handling sensitive and confidential matters
  • Experience supporting a multi-state or multi-country hourly/frontline workforce, ideally in transportation, aviation, or hospitality

  • Preferred experience with ADP WorkforceNow, Adobe, Microsoft, Slack, and Zendesk
  • French language proficiency and PHR/SPHR or SHRM-CP/SCP certification a plus

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Director and VP of People to carry out company priorities, flag trends and risks, and recommend improvements to policies and processes based on what you see day to day.
  • Serve as a key point of contact for employee relations matters, handling concerns and conducting thorough, impartial workplace investigations from intake through resolution, and escalating complex matters to the Director as needed.
  • Partner with front line station leadership and business support team managers on performance issues, promotions, corrective action, and performance management.
  • Manage the full separation process from termination conversations, severance memos (preparation, distribution, and filing), and system updates.
  • Administer leaves of absence and FMLA, and manage workers’ compensation claims in the U.S. and CNESST claims in Québec.
  • Handle day-to-day compliance work, including I-9s, responding to unemployment claims and letters, and processing child support and wage garnishment orders using tools like ADP SmartCompliance and E-Verify.
  • Process pay adjustments (PDR, bonuses, missing hours, pto, etc.) and troubleshoot ADP issues alongside our ADP & Payroll Administrator.
  • Process system and benefit enrollments, edits, and terminations, answer employee benefits questions.
  • Prepare internal promotions, employment verifications, transfers, and cover secondary onboarding as backup.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential employee records, including saving signed Adobe documents and thoroughly documenting employee relations.
  • Support employee engagement initiatives remotely and in person and help carry out programs that strengthen culture and retention across a distributed workforce including ON, QC, CA, IL, IN, MA, CO, PA, NJ, DE, NY, and more.
  • Serve as a system administrator for People Operations requests and manage employee programs such as uniforms, training, travel, etc.
  • Support existing safety plans for our stations and teams in partnership with Operations.
