The listed pay range or pay rate reflects compensation for a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) position. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing, healthcare administration, or other healthcare-related field.
  • Five years Quality Management, Safety, Risk Management or other clinical position with integration of patient safety in acute care environment.
  • Possesses excellent organizational, interpersonal, conflict resolution, and verbal presentation skills.
  • Self-starter with ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and initiatives and to provide anticipated outcomes in a fast paced environment.
  • Demonstrates ability to foster teamwork and bring together diverse groups in a collaborative and effective manner.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to develop and present reports and educational materials.
  • Ability to work with all levels of leadership.
  • Demonstrates tact and diplomacy in situations of conflict and controversy.
  • Strong computer skills required. MS Office (Work, Excel, Power Point).
  • Data analysis and quality experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Knowledge in lean, six sigma or other process improvement techniques desired.
  • Certification in specialty area preferred. (CPHQ, PSC)

Responsibilities

  • Assists the director with the supervision and coordination of patient safety staff in facilitating patient safety in a timely and cost effective manner.
  • Assumes the responsibility for overall daily operations of the patient safety program.
  • Develops and maintains patient safety dashboard to reflect the organization’s goals and objectives.
  • Ensures that all safety events are reviewed and the necessary follow up is deployed.
  • Analyzes, tracks and trends the safety event data to develop appropriate action plans and risk modification strategies.
  • Oversees the process of triage investigation and root cause analyses in response to close calls, safety events unexpected occurrences which may or may not have caused harm.
  • Manages submissions to and relationships with the New Jersey Patient Safety Initiative.
  • Produces and submits patient safety reports as requested by administration, clinical departments, or committees using available information systems and databases.
  • Oversees or conducts statistical analysis, interpretation, and monitoring of patient safety data.
  • Establishes and supports organizational multidisciplinary and unit-based teams for patient safety teams.
  • Serves as patient safety resource by collaborating with personnel and departments involved in patient safety activities.
  • Demonstrates and applies knowledge of patient safety, just culture and high reliability in providing project support and data collection assistance for the improvement of safety culture.
  • Ensures and monitors compliance with the national patient safety goals, results of the patient safety culture survey, reviews and monitors actions from safety events.
  • Ensures that a proactive risk assessment on at least one high risk safety process is conducted annually using failure mode and effects analysis.
  • Establishes policies, procedures, and standards to meet and ensure patient safety outcomes in a safe, productive and cost-effective manner.
  • Collaborates with director in preparation and control of annual budget.
  • Maintains accurate and complete individual staff competencies and performance records.
  • Coordinates the hospital education plan for patient safety.
  • Integrates knowledge of external standards including TJC and other state and federal regulations pertaining to patient safety.
  • Conducts research and promotes implementation of evidenced based guidelines.
  • Attends in-service training sessions and seminars to maintain and improve knowledge of performance improvement techniques.
  • Conducts employee orientation that includes current patient safety and PI expectations, strategies and initiatives.
