POSITION SUMMARY The Manager of Gallery Operations is a mission-focused, results-driven, and collaborative individual committed to establishing and ensuring operational excellence within the museum’s galleries. Working in close collaboration with the Manager of Gallery Education, the successful candidate will be responsible for setting the tone of Guest engagement, maintaining the efficient operation of The DoSeum’s gallery team, and establishing short and long-term goals for the team. They will promote a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for DoSeum Guests. Responsibilities include the scheduling of all gallery team members, placement of team members throughout the facility based on organizational needs and identified team member strengths, support of the general admission sales team, and support of in-person membership sales in collaboration and cooperation with The DoSeum’s Membership office. To properly support the gallery team and attain the museum’s Signature Experience and education goals, the development and delivery of appropriate training modules is a critical component of the position, as is staff recruitment and training in partnership with the Director of Gallery Programs & Experience Integration, the Guest Experience Leadership team, and Human Resources. The Manager of Gallery Operations will bring a collaborative spirit to the role, serving as the primary contact for staffing DoSeum galleries, programs and events, while also coordinating daily activities of the gallery team with appropriate interdepartmental contacts and—as needed—externally contracted parties or vendors. They will also maintain a focus on strategic, continual improvement by benchmarking peer organizations, implementing proven practice, and studying data from DoSeum evaluation tools. Reporting to the Director of Gallery Programs & Experience Integration, the successful candidate will help ensure that The DoSeum serves as an essential educational resource in the San Antonio community, while helping to establish the institution as a nationally recognized leader in informal education and Guest Experience. This is an exempt, salaried, full-time, benefits-eligible position.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in education, hospitality, business administration, STEM-related field, or equivalent is preferred.
Will consider candidates actively enrolled in and pursuing a higher degree.
Demonstrated guest service skills and inherent willingness to lead a team by example.
2-4 years supervisory experience at a high-volume destination, overseeing and mentoring early career individuals.
Demonstrated experience managing organizational change.
Ability to achieve technical fluency in point-of-sale and database systems.
Ability to troubleshoot PC and MAC issues and work with staff to mitigate these issues.
Strong communication and motivational skills.
Must be outgoing, energetic, and enthusiastic.
Demonstrated diplomacy, tact, and self-confidence.

Responsibilities

Helps define and craft a signature, institutional guest service and experience model that is rooted in joyful learning and discovery, holding self and staff accountable to this model.
Schedule program and gallery education team (Experience Engineers) to fulfill organizational programming needs via the Paycor platform.
Establishes and maintains a guest experience built upon the principles of safety & cleanliness, courtesy & delight, consistency & efficiency, and opportunities for all learners, while fostering a positive, fun, and pro-teamwork environment.
Assists with the development and implementation of evaluation tools—both quantitative and qualitative—related to The DoSeum’s Signature Experience, utilizing collected data to continually refine and improve approaches and methods.
Shares data with internal stakeholders on a regular basis.
With Director of Gallery Programs & Experience Integration and other key members of the Education team—as well as in partnership with Human Resources—hires, trains, coaches, and evaluates a core team of motivated gallery education staff (Experience Engineers) who represent The DoSeum’s Signature Experience and deliver the primary interaction with our community and its learners.
Provides direct and daily supervision of a diverse team of part- and full-time educators responsible for delivering exceptional and memorable educational experiences, while also establishing strong pathways of communication for the delivery and receipt of information to and from the team.
Develops and maintains expert knowledge of The DoSeum’s point-of-sale system (Altru).
Oversee guest check-in and DoSeum cash handling procedures, in conjunction with Finance & Administration to ensure processing and reporting features operate correctly, generating and analyzing reports as requested.
Support group and school visits as needed—especially payment.
Continually conducts research on best practices at other museums and industry standards related to guest experience and gallery education and integrates relevant practices at The DoSeum.
Mentors gallery education team (Experience Engineers), with emphasis on learning new skills and disciplines.
Directly supervise the Experience Engineers, providing ongoing coaching, guidance, and performance feedback.
Complete and deliver performance evaluations for direct reports, ensuring accuracy and compliance with organizational policies.
Establish clear performance expectations and hold team members accountable to operational standards, and guest experience outcomes.
Support workforce planning, including staffing structure, hiring decisions, and role development to meet evolving program needs.
Address performance concerns proactively, including documentation and partnership with Human Resources as needed.
