About The Position

Manages multiple visualization teams as they develop dashboards and reports, partnering with senior leadership to provide visualizations that support data-informed business decisions. Leads an enterprise culture of continuous improvement for visualizations and directly leads Data Visualization Team Leads. The manager gathers visualization requirements from business-line senior management and assigns work to visualization teams. The role establishes best practices for visualizations and BI dashboard/report publishing, trains the organization on tool usage, and provides advice and oversight to Data Visualization Leads. It facilitates ongoing senior-leadership feedback, oversees quality assurance for data models and visualizations, and serves as an escalation point for process exceptions. The role also ensures templates, standards, and themes are intuitive for business users, teams deliver actionable insights, and enterprise access to ad hoc analysis and self-service BI tools is consistent. The position exercises manager authority over staffing and performance matters, including appraisals, promotions, salary recommendations, performance management, and terminations. It adheres to company risk and regulatory standards, maintains and enhances internal controls, escalates risk-related issues, supports belonging and the M&T Bank brand, and maintains internal control standards, including timely implementation of audit and regulatory issues. Other related duties may be assigned.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree and at least 9 years of related experience; or, in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 13 years of higher education and/or work experience, including at least 9 years of related experience.
At least 3 years of managerial, supervisory, and/or work leadership experience.
Tactical experience with at least one data visualization tool.
Experience designing and developing advanced dashboards, reports, and data visualizations.
Expert knowledge of data visualization approaches.
Experience incorporating data storytelling into visualizations.
Experience using SQL to analyze, extract, and transform data.

Responsibilities

Gather visualization requirements from business-line senior management and assign work to data visualization teams.
Develop best practices for data visualizations and publishing BI dashboards and reports.
Train the organization on tool usage and advise and oversee Data Visualization Leads.
Facilitate ongoing senior-leadership feedback loops to encourage continuous improvement in visualizations.
Ensure Data Visualization Leads implement consistent quality assurance for accurate data models and visualizations in BI tools.
Approve or provide guidance on process exceptions as an escalation point.
Ensure templates, standards, and themes are intuitive for business users regardless of their data literacy.
Ensure data visualization teams provide actionable insights to lines of business.
Ensure consistent enterprise access to ad hoc analysis and self-service BI tools.
Exercise managerial authority concerning staffing, performance appraisals, promotions, salary recommendations, performance management, and terminations.
Adhere to company risk and regulatory standards, policies, and controls, and identify risk-related issues for escalation.
Design, implement, maintain, and enhance internal controls to mitigate risk.

Maintain internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points and applicable issues raised by external regulators.
