About The Position

Manages multiple visualization teams developing dashboards and reports, and partners with senior leadership to provide visualizations that support data-informed business decisions. Leads an enterprise culture of continuous improvement for visualizations and directly leads Data Visualization team Leads. The role oversees visualization requirements, best practices, quality assurance, accessibility of self-service BI tools, and the delivery of actionable insights to business lines. It also exercises managerial authority over staffing and performance matters and supports the company’s risk, regulatory, and internal-control standards.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree and at least 9 years of related experience; alternatively, a combined minimum of 13 years of higher education and/or work experience, including at least 9 years of related experience.
At least 3 years of managerial, supervisory, and/or work leadership experience.
Tactical experience with at least one data visualization tool.
Experience designing and developing advanced dashboards, reports, and data visualizations.
Expert knowledge of data visualization approaches.
Experience incorporating data storytelling into visualizations.
Experience using Structured Query Language (SQL) to analyze, extract, and transform data.

Certification in data storytelling and/or data visualization tools.

Responsibilities

Gather visualization requirements from business-line senior management and assign work to data visualization teams to enable data-informed decisions.
Develop visualization best practices, including practices for publishing BI dashboards and reports, training the organization on tool usage, and advising and overseeing Data Visualization Leads.
Facilitate ongoing senior-leadership feedback loops to encourage continuous improvement in visualizations.
Ensure Data Visualization Leads implement consistent quality assurance for accurate data models and visualizations within BI tools; approve or provide guidance on process exceptions.
Ensure templates, standards, and themes are intuitive for business users with varying levels of data literacy.
Ensure visualization teams deliver actionable insights to business lines.
Ensure consistent enterprise access to ad-hoc analysis and self-service BI tools.
Exercise managerial authority concerning staffing, performance appraisals, promotions, salary recommendations, performance management, and terminations.
Adhere to company risk and regulatory standards, policies, controls, and Risk Appetite; identify risk-related issues requiring escalation.
Design, implement, maintain, and enhance internal controls to mitigate risk.
Promote an environment that supports belonging and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points and applicable issues raised by external regulators.
Complete other related duties as assigned.
