About The Position

SickKids Foundation is seeking a Manager, Legal & Risk Management for an 18-month contract. This role is crucial for the Foundation's legal operations and enterprise risk management framework. The position involves leading enterprise risk management programs, driving legal and operational activities, supporting agreement drafting and review, managing workflows, providing administrative support to the Legal and Risk Department, and enhancing organizational compliance and risk culture. The ideal candidate is a pragmatic operator with strong judgment, systems thinking, and the ability to influence within a collaborative, mission-driven environment.

Requirements

  • 5–7 years of progressive experience in legal operations, risk management, or a related field.
  • Experience drafting and reviewing agreements and managing contract lifecycle processes.
  • Experience leading risk programs.
  • Proven ability to drive initiatives, influence stakeholders, and operate with a high degree of autonomy and accountability.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to assess complex issues and implement practical solutions.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills to prioritize activities, issues, and multiple demands within tight deadlines.
  • Computer literacy at the intermediate to advanced level.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presenting to senior leadership.
  • High level of discretion and professionalism when handling sensitive information.

Responsibilities

  • Drafting, reviewing, and/or revising standard-form agreements (including gift and supplier agreements), correspondence, and memorandums in collaboration with Legal Counsel.
  • Owning and optimizing legal intake, triage, and tracking processes to ensure efficient and high-quality service delivery.
  • Driving the development and continuous improvement of legal templates, playbooks, and internal guidance materials, including managing the Legal & Risk intranet and precedent system.
  • Identifying and implementing opportunities to modernize legal workflows, tools, and systems appropriate for a resource-conscious nonprofit environment.
  • Providing strategic legal and operational support by conducting research, analyzing information, and preparing briefing notes, memoranda, presentations, and communications for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Performing administrative functions for the Legal department, including maintaining and improving legal department filing systems, document management, managing invoice and expense payments, and calendar coordination.
  • Collaborating with various Foundation teams to build strong relationships and deliver successful legal services.
  • Leading the execution and continuous enhancement of the Foundation’s Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Program in partnership with the Vice President, General Counsel and Chief Risk Officer, ensuring alignment with organizational strategy and best practices.
  • Driving the development, maintenance, and evolution of the Foundation’s risk register in partnership with senior leadership.
  • Leading the preparation of Risk Management Committee materials, including agenda, meeting minutes, and other required materials.
  • Preparing risk presentations, risk reports, and dashboards for the Senior Management Team and Board Committees.
  • Proactively identifying emerging risks, assessing impacts, and implementing mitigation strategies to strengthen organizational resilience.
  • Providing ERM recommendations to the Chief Risk Officer and independently liaising and advising senior leadership on risk deliverables and problem-solving.
  • Championing continuous improvement of risk frameworks, governance practices, and reporting processes across the organization.
  • Providing project management expertise for cross-functional initiatives for the full project lifecycle, including developing project plans, preparing meeting agendas, and facilitating project meetings.
  • Leading the tracking and monitoring of project deliverables to ensure project delivery is completed within scope and established timelines and objectives.
  • Driving structured decision-making, problem-solving, and issue resolution across complex stakeholder environments.
  • Establishing and reinforcing project governance, accountability, and reporting structures.
  • Engaging project stakeholders and communicating project updates to ensure timely reporting and project success.
