About The Position

The Manager Laboratory role involves demonstrating the ability to identify, troubleshoot, and document procedure or instrument problems. This position participates in and implements Quality Improvement activities as requested by the department director. The role also involves participating in and instructing required in-service and continuing education programs or presentations. The individual must be capable of performing lab procedures within established department turnaround times. Key responsibilities include monitoring testing practices to assure adherence to quality control, coordinating the continuous improvement of the performance of care and services provided, and assuring a safe working environment throughout the laboratory. The role also includes monitoring the department orientation of new technical employees and monitoring the competencies required for all hospital laboratory staff. Additionally, the Manager Laboratory will assist the Clinical Director in the budget process as needed and assist in the assessment of capital equipment needs, space requirements, staffing levels, and other resources needed to deliver services. The Manager Laboratory assumes the leadership role in the absence of the Laboratory Clinical Director.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology, Biology or Chemistry is required.
  • Must be registered as Medical Technologist by the American Society of Clinical Pathology.
  • Three to five years as a Medical Technologist to include supervisory and administrative responsibilities required.
