About The Position

The Paleoclimate and Climate Change Lab at Brown University seeks a Laboratory Manager to oversee lab operations and support and contribute to a diverse portfolio of research projects. The position manages the lab’s cavity ringdown spectrometers and assists student research assistants and visiting researchers. This is a full-time, 12-month, 100% research-funded position for one year, with the possibility of renewal based on satisfactory performance and available funding.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in geosciences, environmental science, or another STEM field strongly preferred, with at least two years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Experience with Google Suite, MS Office, and data analysis and visualization software.
Scientific writing and reporting skills.
Problem-solving and troubleshooting skills in a laboratory environment.

Nice To Haves

Prior experience in climate, paleoclimate, geology, and/or oceanographic research.
Experience operating analytical instrumentation.
Experience with data analysis and visualization software such as R, Matlab, or Python.
Project management experience.

Responsibilities

Operate, schedule, and maintain laboratory instruments, including cavity ringdown spectrometers.
Handle laboratory purchasing and related paperwork.
Prepare samples.
Analyze, quality-check, and archive data and metadata.
Train and oversee student research assistants and other laboratory personnel.
Ensure compliance with environmental health and safety guidelines.
Provide assistance to student research assistants and visiting researchers.
