About The Position
The Manager in Training (MIT) position is a transitional role designed to prepare the employee for promotion into a Retail Store Management position. With a focus on leadership training, customer service excellence, and operational expertise, the role includes hands-on assignments and structured learning opportunities. The posting states that progression into management could occur within 8–12 weeks, depending on prior experience and performance; promotion is performance-based and subject to management availability. Under the Store Manager’s guidance, MITs lead by example, demonstrate initiative and strong leadership, and support store performance, team development, and exceptional customer service. They learn and support store operations while advancing AutoZone’s mission of providing trusted automotive solutions.
Requirements
- 1–2 years of prior experience as a retail manager or supervisor.
- Availability for a full-time flexible schedule, including mornings, nights, weekends, and overtime as needed.
Nice To Haves
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Strong people skills and effective communication in both Spanish and English.
- Previous experience in automotive retail or analyzing company financials, such as Profit & Loss statements.
Responsibilities
- Live The Pledge, deliver WOW! Customer Service, and cultivate a high-performing, engaged store team.
- Maintain clear and effective communication with employees and customers to drive store execution and performance.
- Learn to manage, analyze, and reconcile monthly Profit & Loss (P&L) statements to optimize store profitability.
- Support store operations, ensure compliance with policies, and uphold structured training processes.
- Assist with staffing, mentoring, and training employees to develop a strong, successful team.
- Lead customer service activities, ensure outstanding experiences, and proactively resolve concerns.
- Oversee inventory accuracy, store merchandising, and sales strategies to maximize success.
- Complete management skills training and learn key aspects of store operations and AutoZone culture.
- Demonstrate consistent progression throughout the training program to be considered for management openings.
