About The Position

The Manager in Training assists the Store Manager with overall store operations and administrative duties and develops knowledge across the store’s product areas and departments. The role helps determine methods and approaches for achieving store goals and initiatives, upholds company policies and standards, promotes sales and promotions, and represents Hibbett | City Gear in creating a distinctive customer experience. The Manager in Training provides outstanding customer service, promotes merchandise, and assumes supervisory control of the store when the Store Manager is absent while learning the Store Manager’s responsibilities. The position supports store asset control, sales and merchandising plans, inventory awareness, profitability, staff direction, and customer service standards. It also performs general administrative tasks and protects company assets and financial information by following internal controls and reporting potential fraud risks. In the Store Manager’s absence, the role supervises employees, including interviewing and training, assigning and directing work, and resolving problems.

Requirements

Experience working in a retail environment.
One to three years of customer service experience.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to assist in managing a team and keep up with overall goals and profits.
Self-starter with initiative to take on important tasks without being asked.
Strong attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and precisely.
Team player passionate about outstanding customer service and selling merchandise.

Responsibilities

Assist the Store Manager in controlling company assets.
Consult with the Store Manager on action plans for selling, restocking, merchandising, ordering, scheduling, and other store responsibilities.
Assume responsibility for the entire store in the Store Manager’s absence.
Provide product knowledge and guidance to employees and customers across departments.
Monitor inventory, sales statistics, and expenses to support profitability.
Direct staff to ensure departmental responsibilities and standards are completed.
Keep the Store Manager informed about inventory movement and customer trends.
Maintain quality customer service, including assisting customers as they enter and helping multiple customers during peak periods.
Promote and sell company services and merchandise.
Follow company policies, procedures, and standards in the operations, personnel, visual, and customer service manuals and company communications.
Perform general administrative duties and train in the Store Manager’s responsibilities.
Protect company assets and financial information by ensuring internal control procedures are accurate and effective and reporting potential fraud risks to management or appropriate officials.
Supervise employees in the Store Manager’s absence, including interviewing and training employees, planning and assigning work, directing work, and resolving problems.
