About The Position

The Manager in Training assists the Store Manager with overall store operations and administrative duties. The role requires knowledge of each product area or department and supports determining methods to accomplish store goals and initiatives. The Manager in Training upholds company policies, procedures, and visual standards; promotes sales and promotions; and represents Hibbett | City Gear in providing a distinctive customer experience and building customer loyalty. The position promotes customer service and merchandise, assumes supervisory control when the Store Manager is absent, and receives training in the Store Manager’s responsibilities. In the Store Manager’s absence, the Manager in Training supervises employees and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with company policies and applicable laws, including interviewing and training employees, assigning and directing work, and resolving problems.

Requirements

Experience working in a retail environment; footwear and athletic apparel experience is preferred.
1–3 years of customer service experience.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to assist in managing a team and keep up with overall goals and profits.
Self-starter with initiative to take on important tasks without being asked.
Strong attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and precisely.
Team player passionate about outstanding customer service and selling merchandise.

Responsibilities

Assist the Store Manager in controlling company assets.
Consult with the Store Manager to establish action plans for selling, restocking, merchandising, ordering, scheduling, and other departmental and store responsibilities.
Assume responsibility for the entire store in the Store Manager’s absence.
Provide knowledge and guidance to employees and customers across departments as needed.
Monitor inventory, sales statistics, and expenses to support profitability in all departments.
Direct staff to ensure departmental responsibilities and standards are completed.
Keep the Store Manager informed about inventory movement and customer trends.
Ensure quality customer service is maintained, including welcoming customers and assisting multiple customers during peak periods.
Promote and sell company services and merchandise.
Follow company policies, procedures, and standards in the operations, personnel, visual, and customer service manuals, as well as company communications.
Protect company assets and financial information by supporting accurate and effective internal controls and reporting potential fraud risks to management or appropriate officials.
Perform general administrative duties and train in the Store Manager’s responsibilities.
Supervise employees in the Store Manager’s absence, including interviewing and training, planning and assigning work, directing work, and resolving problems.
