About The Position

The Manager in Training assists the Store Manager with overall store operations and administrative duties. This role requires knowledge of each product area or department and helps determine methods and approaches for achieving store goals and initiatives. The Manager in Training upholds company policies, procedures, and visual standards, promotes sales and promotions, and represents Hibbett | City Gear in creating a distinctive customer experience and building customer loyalty. The role emphasizes outstanding customer service and merchandise sales. In the Store Manager’s absence, the Manager in Training assumes supervisory control of the store and is trained in the Store Manager’s responsibilities. The position also involves supporting inventory, sales, expenses, merchandising, ordering, restocking, and scheduling; guiding employees and customers across departments; and helping ensure departmental standards, profitability, and effective internal controls. When supervising, the Manager in Training may interview and train employees, assign and direct work, and resolve problems.

Requirements

Experience working in a retail environment; footwear and athletic apparel experience is preferred.
1–3 years of customer service experience.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to assist in managing a team and keep up with overall goals and profits.
Self-starter with initiative to take on important tasks without being asked.
Strong attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and precisely.
Team player passionate about outstanding customer service and selling merchandise.

Responsibilities

Assist the Store Manager in controlling company assets.
Consult with the Store Manager on action plans for selling, restocking, merchandising, ordering, scheduling, and other store responsibilities.
Assume responsibility for the entire store in the Store Manager’s absence.
Provide knowledge and guidance to employees and customers across departments as needed.
Monitor inventory, sales statistics, and expenses to support profitability.
Direct staff to ensure departmental responsibilities and standards are completed.
Keep the Store Manager informed about inventory movement and customer trends.
Ensure quality customer service, including assisting customers as they enter and serving multiple customers during peak periods.
Promote and sell company services and merchandise.
Perform general administrative duties and train in the Store Manager’s responsibilities.
Follow company policies, procedures, and standards in operations, personnel, visual presentation, and customer service.
Protect company assets and financial information by maintaining effective internal controls and reporting potential fraud risks to management or appropriate officials.
Supervise employees in the Store Manager’s absence, including interviewing and training employees, planning and assigning work, directing work, and resolving problems.
