About The Position

The Manager in Training assists the Store Manager with overall store operations and administrative duties, and develops knowledge of each product area and department. The role helps determine approaches for meeting store goals and initiatives, upholds company policies and standards, promotes sales and promotions, and represents Hibbett I City Gear in creating a strong customer experience. The Manager in Training provides outstanding service and promotes merchandise, assumes supervisory control when the Store Manager is absent, and receives training in the Store Manager’s responsibilities. The role supports asset protection, selling, restocking, merchandising, ordering, scheduling, inventory awareness, and store profitability. It provides guidance to employees and customers and helps maintain customer-service and operational standards. In the Store Manager’s absence, the Manager in Training supervises employees, including interviewing and training, assigning and directing work, and resolving problems.

Requirements

Experience working in a retail environment; footwear and athletic apparel experience is preferred.
1–3 years of customer service experience.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to assist in managing a team and keep up with overall goals and profits.
Self-starter with initiative to take on important tasks without being asked.
Strong attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and precisely.
Team player passionate about outstanding customer service and selling merchandise.

Responsibilities

Assist the Store Manager in controlling company assets.
Consult with the Store Manager to establish action plans for selling, restocking, merchandising, ordering, scheduling, and other store responsibilities.
Assume responsibility for the entire store in the Store Manager’s absence.
Provide knowledge and guidance to employees and customers across departments.
Monitor inventory, sales statistics, and expenses to support profitability.
Direct staff to ensure department responsibilities and standards are completed.
Keep the Store Manager informed about inventory movement and customer trends.
Maintain quality customer service, including helping customers as they enter and assisting multiple customers during peak periods.
Promote and sell company services and merchandise.
Follow company policies, procedures, and standards in the operations, personnel, visual, and customer service manuals, as well as company memos.
Protect company assets and financial information by ensuring internal control procedures are accurate and effective, and report potential fraud risks to management or appropriate officials.
Perform general administrative duties and train in the Store Manager’s responsibilities.
Supervise employees in the Store Manager’s absence, including interviewing and training employees, planning and assigning work, directing work, and resolving problems.
