About The Position

The San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) is seeking a Manager I for the Student and Family Services Division. This role will support the Focal Services Programs and Student & Family Team, overseeing the day-to-day operations of assigned programs. The Manager I will be responsible for monitoring, analyzing, and synthesizing data for key stakeholders, identifying trends, and making recommendations for changes to district policies and practices. The position embraces a user-centered design approach and requires a human-centered design approach, a commitment to cultural humility, and anti-racist work.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of San Francisco’s public schools/urban public schools and a passionate belief in SFUSD’s commitment to instructional leadership as a lever toward delivering on the SFUSD Graduate Profile.
  • Strong analytics and systems thinking necessary to interpret data to inform goals and strategy, as well as build infrastructure where none exists.
  • Ability to work effectively across multiple functions and roles within a complex organization.
  • Ability to support advisory councils.
  • Knowledge of working with the LGBTQ community, Refugee & Immigrants, Solidarity in Education (RISE), Students Experiencing Homelessness, and students in Foster Youth care.
  • Strong understanding of the various policies and Education Codes that directly impact focal students.
  • A proven record of effectively planning, organizing, and using resources to take action and achieve goals.
  • The ability to learn quickly and adapt as needed in a fast-paced environment.
  • Outstanding organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail.
  • A flexible, “can do” work ethic with a focus on identifying challenges and proactively working to find solutions while maintaining a bigger picture lens and focus on what can be delivered instead of what cannot be done.

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A. / B.S) from an accredited college or university.
  • Two years experience in a large public institution with multiple sites.
  • Relevant supervisory experience.
  • Valid California driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate a Leadership Mindset: Increase communication, clarity, and connection across the division to reduce silos and streamline services. Develop protocols and procedures to assist staff in delivery of services to students and families. Identify gaps in division-wide structures and generate solutions in partnership with stakeholders towards continuous improvement.
  • Manage to Results: Create infrastructure for grant management and tracking systems and supports that align with divisional goals. Lead and manage the grant application process for federal, state, and local grants. Monitor and maintain compliance on any contracts and/or MOUs that directly support services for LGBTQ Student Services and Refugee and Immigrant Solidarity in Education programs. Support feedback and evaluation tools that center the student and family experience of our processes and procedures that will inform service delivery, including communicating data results to all stakeholders as needed. Leads one or more components/functions of work within the department/division. Manages direct reports who may in turn manage others.
  • Manage Teams: Lead, supervise, evaluate, and guide a team supporting SFUSD Focal Services and support the Student & Family Team.
  • Manage Relationships: Act as the liaison for coordinating services in support of LGBTQ Student Services and Refugee and Immigrant Solidarity in Education. Serve as a thought partner with the Division’s Leadership Team, schools and school site staff, as well as various central office departments. Cultivate strong partnerships with central office divisions and departments towards the successful implementation of programs and policies that are student and family centered.
