About The Position

Responsible for leading in the development and management of assigned underwriting and analyst teams. Also handles larger, complex, self-funded client accounts and consults on new business and prospective opportunities. Is responsible for the operational bridge between underwriting team, systems, compliance, and broker service teams, ensuring that underwriting workflows, tools, and data practices are consistent, accurate, and scalable. Responsible for optimizing underwriting operations, maintaining compliance with carrier and regulatory guidelines, and driving process improvements across the business.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Twelve (12) or more years of related work experience
  • Ten (10) or more years of Actuary or Underwriting experience in a consulting role
  • Associate of the Society of Actuaries
  • Valid Insurance License within 90 Days
  • Must continue to meet Continuing Education requirements for license renewal
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, advanced MS Excel skills required
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Excellent customer service skills, including telephone and listening skills
  • Excellent planning, organizational, and prioritization skills
  • Ability to work within a team and foster teamwork

Responsibilities

  • Serves as direct manager to team members in the Underwriting and Analytics team.
  • Leads in training development and coordinating execution on all underwriting and analysis-related topics.
  • Leads and manages all assigned client underwriting projects, and present analysis to clients directly in a confident and easy-to-understand manner.
  • Oversees day-to-day underwriting operations and workflow execution.
  • Meets with clients and lead the Underwriting team to define and accomplish projects.
  • Acts as subject matter expert in all major areas of underwriting, including special pricing and marketing projects.
  • Identifies, coordinates, and manages all relevant external business partner relationships, including but not limited to insurance carriers, external consultants, and third-party administrators and vendors.
  • Acts as subject matter expert in understanding actuarial plan values and how they are used in various pricing and analysis projects. This includes the ability to competently use software available for such types of plan analysis and pricing.
  • Understands and drives improvement to all underwriting models and reporting templates to fully modify and customize to meet customer needs.
  • Assists Producers in prospecting activities as needed, including but not limited to written RFP responses, finalist presentations, and related follow-up activities.
  • Assists in determining strategic goals of team(s), including but not limited to resource planning, education/training needs, policy development, and business growth.
  • Maintains data tracking and reporting for financial management, underwriting models, client reports, and other analytical reporting deliverables.
  • Serves as liaison between underwriting team, IT, compliance, and senior leadership.
  • Actively engages in educational opportunities to further underwriting knowledge, market trends, and the regulatory environment.
  • Responsible for accuracy and timeliness of all work performed, including proper management of timelines and meeting deadlines as established.
  • Supports new hire onboarding, ongoing skills training for underwriting staff.
  • Performs all duties in accordance with all company policies and procedures, and all federal, state and local laws, wherein the Company operates.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
