About The Position

Airgas is hiring a Manager, Distribution in Albany, NY. This role leads and supports all phases of distribution, including daily truck routing, monitoring delivery vehicle maintenance, recordkeeping, and driver safety oversight. The Distribution Manager is focused on optimizing delivery service in a safe and efficient manner, guiding drivers and coordinating special requirements in partnership with the Plant Manager and shift leads.

Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Minimum 5 years experience in a manufacturing or distribution operation.
Minimum 2 years of demonstrated leadership experience in a distribution environment.
Knowledge of truck routing and shipping of hazardous materials.
Knowledge of DOT regulations and FDA requirements.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office to include prior experience using Outlook, Word and Excel.
Self-starter, self-motivated, independent, well-organized with attention to detail.
Team player with positive attitude; strong collaborative skills; ability to influence without having direct authority.
Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to read, comprehend and articulate technical procedures, governmental regulations, MSDS, safety rules, manufacturer operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, etc.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to deal effectively with others in both favorable and unfavorable situations regardless of status of position. Accepts cultural diversity and establishes effective working relationships.
Strong analytical skills; competency for understanding metrics and ability to present and communicate to all levels of the organization and external customers.

Must be able to safely drive a forklift.
Candidates must have valid employment authorization in the U.S. and must not require visa sponsorship now or in the future.

Nice To Haves

College degree in supply chain management, logistics management or related field preferred.
Working knowledge of SAP strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

Guides and mentors drivers, providing collaborative leadership regarding safe work habits.
Manages availability of drivers and equipment, including all vehicle maintenance requirements, to ensure that adequate resources are available to meet distribution/customer needs.
Manages and aligns distribution costs while enhancing service responsiveness through balanced daily routes and overall system optimization.
Provides safety and compliance training to meet Department of Transportation (DOT), Occupational Safety & Health Agency (OSHA), Food & Drug Administration (FDA) and Airgas organization-wide requirements.
Fosters continuous improvement in daily distribution operations.
Advances distribution efficiency initiatives for the location, including demand leveling.
Develops, documents and trains employees on Standard Operating Processes (SOPs).
Reviews and processes daily all Department of Transportation (DOT) documentation; vehicle condition reports and drivers hours of service, route efficiency and completion.
Reviews incoming orders for accuracy and unusual requirements.
Communicates unusual requirements for production planning.
Reviews returned trips for paperwork accuracy and completeness, and unfulfilled orders.
Reviews open orders for status and closure.
Prepares daily local and inter-branch delivery schedule for cylinders and bulk.
Prepares load sheets, delivery tickets and manifests and highlights any critical customer requirements.
Ensures loads are accurate and complete.
Responds to inquiries from sales, customer service and branches regarding delivery status, capabilities and any emergency delivery requirements.
Other duties and projects as assigned.
