Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and 3 years experience in a Sterile Processing Environment required Or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Well-developed organizational skills required
  • Proficient in Word, Excel and Outlook required
  • Good oral and written communication skills required
  • Able to prioritize and plan work activities, using time efficiently required
  • Able to set and achieve challenging goals required

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year supervisory experience in a hospital setting preferred
  • IAHCSMM or CBSPD Central Sterile Processing Technician Certification or a substantially equivalent credential within 1 year required

Responsibilities

  • Cleans, sterilizes, wraps, stores and distributes sterile equipment, supplies and instruments used in patient care.
  • Maintains inventories of sterile supplies, equipment and instruments and provides to appropriate department heads.
  • Manages professional employees and/or supervisors or supervises large, complex support, production or operations team(s).
  • Has accountability for the performance and results of a team within own discipline or function.
  • Adapts departmental plans and priorities to address resource and operational challenges.
  • Decisions and problem-solving are guided by policies, procedures and business plan.
  • Receives guidance from senior manager.
  • Provides technical guidance to employees, colleagues and/or customers.
  • Manages the activities of Central Service staff.
  • Establishes standards of work performance and methods of operation for the department.
  • Inspects work activities to ensure workers are following prescribed procedures.
  • Leads and supports performance improvement activities in the department.
  • Ensures personnel preparing and handling sterile items employ aseptic techniques.
  • Compiles periodic reports as necessary.
  • Ensures all Safety and Infection Control policies and procedures are adhered to.
  • In conjunction with educator, assesses staff competency and actively promotes staff development.
  • Works with leadership to meet target budget, actively seeking additional operational improvements and revenue enhancements.
  • Works proactively with Operating Room personnel for quick resolution of potential issues.
  • Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner, gathering and analyzing information skillfully and developing alternative solutions.
  • Coordinates resources for problem identification and resolution, ensuring the smooth operation of Central Services.
  • Ensures existing policies and procedures are understood and adhered to by personnel on assigned shift.
  • Participates in hiring, termination, and performance management of staff.
  • Assists with assessing performance issues and appropriately works in partnership with Human Resources to resolve issues.
  • Assists in employee evaluations, training, and ongoing education for staff.
  • Oversees staff scheduling process, with emphasis upon attendance issues, scheduling conflicts and appropriate ratio of staff to workload necessary for the overall work and prioritization of functions.
  • Participates in planning for future needs of specific shift as a whole, including but not limited to, personnel needs, program development, intradepartmental relationships and instrument/equipment needs.
  • Other duties as assigned.
