About The Position

Garner’s mission is to transform the healthcare economy, delivering high-quality and affordable care for all. We are fundamentally reimagining how healthcare works in the U.S. by partnering with employers to redesign healthcare benefits using clear incentives and powerful, data-driven insights. Our approach guides employees to higher-quality, lower-cost care, creating a system that works better for everyone. Patients achieve better health outcomes, employers spend healthcare dollars more effectively, and physicians are rewarded for delivering exceptional care rather than performing more procedures. Garner is one of the fastest-growing healthcare technology companies in the country. Our products are trusted by the most sophisticated employers and providers in the industry, and we are building a team of talented, mission-driven individuals who are motivated to make a meaningful impact on healthcare at scale. We're looking for a Manager, Business Insights to lead a small, high-leverage team of product and business analysts driving the most consequential decisions at Garner. This is not a pure people-management role. You'll spend roughly half your time hands-on — designing experiments, running causal analyses, and building measurement frameworks alongside your team — and the other half coaching, raising the bar, and translating analytical work into clear recommendations for executives. You'll manage a team of 3–4 analysts spanning Growth, Product, and Central BI, and you'll be the person leadership turns to when the math gets hard and the answer matters. This role reports to the Director of Data Science & Analytics and partners closely with Product, Engineering, Growth, and the executive team. It is the senior IC + early-stage management role for someone who wants to operate at the technical front lines while building an analytics culture — not the broader leadership role over Data Ecosystem.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of experience in business analytics, or a related quantitative field (industry, academia, or both)
  • 2+ years experience managing analysts or data scientists.
  • You have reviewed code, taught people how to design experiments, given hard feedback, and demonstrated experience growing people.
  • Advanced analytical & statistical rigor.
  • An understanding of experiment design, including randomization, sample size, & threats to validity.
  • You are comfortable with causal inference methods and can reason about the tradeoffs between speed & rigot.
  • Data visualization and communication. Translate complex analyses into clear insights for different audiences using dashboards, slides, notebooks, etc.
  • Autonomy and judgment. Independently scope complex problems, make decisions with ambiguous data, and deliver high-quality results to senior stakeholders.
  • Product mindset. You're curious about why metrics move, not just that they move. You understand the member experience and the business model. You ask "what should we do about this?" not just "here's what the data says."
  • A desire to be a part of a high-performing, mission-driven team that operates with intense urgency, a strong sense of individual accountability, and a commitment to authentic feedback.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a small team of analysts.
  • Manage Product Analysts across the business.
  • Set the technical bar, assist in project scoping, analysis design, and unblock the team while also staying close to Garner’s analytical problems.
  • Provide thought leadership directly to product managers, engineers, and leadership by translating ambiguous business questions into analytical frameworks.
  • Be a trusted partner trusted by executives across the business.
  • Own measurement and experimentation strategy.
  • Define how Garner measures success across all aspects of our product, from growth marketing, product feature launches, and financial incentives.
  • Manage A/B testing, casual inference, propensity matching, & synthetic controls, and forecasting for relevant areas.
  • Use your judgement to apply fast & quick methods vs full statistical rigor.
  • Design metrics and communicate insights that drive decisions.
  • Run high-stakes analysis that isolate treatment effects from confounders, model retention impact or stress test assumptions.
  • Translate these complex analyses into clear, actionable narratives that resonate with technical and executive audiences.
  • Monitor your metrics and be the first to say something when it changes.
  • Mentor your team through hard problems by teaching them how to think.
  • Enforce analytical standards by establishing best practices that catch errors before they reach executives and increase reproducibility.
  • Design career paths and manage growth plans.
