About The Position

The Business Centre Manager leads and develops a team of Mid‑Market Account Managers, strengthens BDC’s market presence in Calgary, and builds long‑term relationships within the local business community. The Business Centre Manager, is responsible for driving portfolio growth by leading, coaching and partnering with Account Managers to source, develop, and recommend high‑quality financing and advisory transactions in alignment with BDC’s credit policies and risk parameters. As the only bank dedicated exclusively to Canadian entrepreneurs, BDC supports the growth of small and mid‑sized businesses across Canada, and this role contributes directly to that impact. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or another relevant field.
  • Minimum 3 years of front‑line sales leadership experience, or 10–15 years of progressive experience in the financial services sector.
  • Experience leading, coaching, and developing sales or account management professionals.
  • Demonstrated experience in business development, relationship management, and portfolio growth.
  • Strong communication skills, including public speaking and presentations to senior stakeholders.
  • Experience influencing and negotiating with business owners and senior decision‑makers.
  • Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and priorities in a collaborative environment.
  • Valid driver’s license and regular access to a vehicle.

  • Graduate or professional designation such as MBA, CPA, CFA, PMP, or CMC.
  • Established professional network within the Calgary business community.
  • Proven track record of building long‑term client relationships and delivering high‑quality customer service.
  • Experience presenting credit or financing proposals to risk management or underwriting committees.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and mentor a team of Mid‑Market Account Managers in the Calgary territory, including recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and retention.
  • Drive business development by actively building and maintaining relationships with local entrepreneurs, professional advisors, and referral partners, while leading, coaching, and working with Account Managers to generate new financing and advisory opportunities.
  • Identify priority business sectors with strong growth potential and develop and implement a strategic plan to address entrepreneurs’ financing and advisory needs, including support for innovative deal structuring.
  • Develop and implement customer retention and relationship growth strategies to build a profitable, sustainable loan portfolio.
  • Coach Account Managers to achieve and exceed objectives related to new client acquisition, transaction volume, advisory service delivery, customer retention, portfolio growth, and expected loss targets.
  • Support Account Managers in pre‑qualification activities and in presenting financing proposals to Credit Risk Management and Underwriting, ensuring compliance with BDC policies, KYC requirements, and sound risk‑reward analysis.
  • Actively contribute to the Alberta South leadership team, supporting regional growth objectives and the professional development of colleagues.
