The Manager, Building and Grounds position is responsible for maintaining all buildings and grounds at The Carter Center through a combination of staff employees and external contractors. The role oversees staff, external contractors, preventive maintenance programs, building systems, grounds services, mailroom operations, safety-related facility needs, and operating and capital budgets for building and grounds. Responsibilities include oversight of building systems, HVAC, electrical and electronic controls, water and sewer systems, elevators, mailroom operations, landscaping, custodial coordination, contractor performance, building-related concerns, and capital maintenance planning. This position is responsible for supervising one landscape crew leader, two (2) maintenance mechanics, mailroom clerk, a monthly volunteer landscaping effort, and oversees an external contractor. The buildings and grounds consist of over 90,000 sq. ft. of buildings located at The Carter Center, the Kirbo Building, and the Highland Building, as well as 35+ acres of grounds. The work is funded from resources made available in the annual operating and capital budgets for the Center. The grounds include manicured lawns, wild spaces, a Japanese garden with two small lakes, a rose garden, an entry garden, acres of mature trees, outdoor artwork, and substantial parking and sidewalks.
