About The Position

The City of Macedonia is seeking a full-time Maintenance Worker to perform a variety of tasks related to the maintenance and upkeep of city parks, grounds, streets, and equipment. This role involves both routine and emergency duties, requiring the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and temperatures. The Maintenance Worker will be responsible for groundskeeping, road maintenance, snow removal, and light vehicle and equipment maintenance. The position also requires the ability to be on call for emergency situations and to work effectively with the public and colleagues.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Two to five years of related experience with a good work record.
Ability to perform general labor duties, follow directions, and show respect.
Ability to safely use and maintain equipment, trucks and vehicles, hand tools, and power tools.
Ability to follow all safety regulations.
Possess and maintain a valid CDL driver's license and be insurable through the City's Insurance.
Ability to effectively work and communicate with the general public, co-workers, and management.
Ability to see, hear, and carry out verbal and written instructions.
Ability to sit, stand, stoop, bend, and walk about.
Possess an audible voice for communication.
Ability to climb into and out of confined spaces, and climb a ladder to normal building heights.
Ability to lift at least 50 lbs.
Ability to follow and comply with Drug Free Workplace Program Policy.
Must work well with others and work well with management.

Responsibilities

Perform grounds maintenance for City parks and City-owned properties, including mowing, weeding, fertilizing, aerating, planting, tree trimming, maintaining playing fields and playground equipment, and litter collection.
Clean restrooms and perform safety checks and minor repairs on playground equipment.
Perform minor building repairs.
Assist with special event set-up and tear down.
Maintain City streets and roads.
Plow snow and apply salt for ice control at any time day or night.
Clean and dig ditches, and dig and lay drain pipe.
Assist with masonry projects such as constructing catch basins and storm sewers.
Perform road repairs using hot and cold materials.
Repair berms, perform roadside mowing, and collect leaves and brush.
Perform miscellaneous landscaping and litter collection.
Clean and perform light preventative maintenance to vehicles and equipment.
Perform any other duties and work with any crews as assigned or required by management.
Work overtime hours as requested and required.
Be on 24-hour call as needed by management.
