About The Position

Maintains the operation of a building’s mechanical and utility systems. Checks the operation of all installed machinery and safety equipment periodically, as well as inspects areas of building for personnel and patient protection (fire, safety and security) and recommends corrections. Installs, inspects, maintains, repairs on mechanical and fixed equipment as directed and makes emergency repairs. Carries out preventive maintenance programs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent with shop courses.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in a maintenance position.
  • Must share the on-call duties of the department.
  • Valid Class “E” Driver’s License

Responsibilities

  • Complies with all hospital standards and policies with a focus on safety.
  • Works under the direct supervision of the Plant Superintendent, Maintenance Tech II and/or alongside Maintenance Tech II.
  • Assist in major and minor utility shutdowns.
  • Assist in the Environmental Services and Laundry Department as needed.
  • Maintains and repairs various equipment in the hospital and clinics, which includes but not limited to kitchen equipment, ice machines, patient related equipment and fixtures.
  • Performs Environment of Care Inspections and routine regulatory physical checks such as exit/emergency lights.
  • Operates standard tools, instruments, and equipment to complete jobs assigned.
  • Assist in general maintenance work, moving and lifting equipment as assigned.
  • Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Review work orders, priority status, and designated time schedules.
  • Ability to solve problems and identify solutions.
  • Performs equipment preventative maintenance.
  • Performs routine inspections of building machines, noting deficiencies and initiating repairs.
  • Apply cost effective measures in the utilization of materials and time.
  • Keep work area orderly, clean, and safe. Assure care in use of tools, equipment, and supplies.
  • Maintain established and department policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control.
  • Attend meetings and in-services as required.
  • Requisitions/order materials, equipment for work to be performed.
  • Prepare areas to be constructed, maintained, repaired.
  • Assist in general maintenance work and moving and lifting equipment and materials as directed.
  • Maintains and repairs equipment, using hand tools, and portable power tools.
  • Operates and maintains stationary engines and mechanical equipment to provide for utilities such as light, heat, and power for refrigeration, air conditioning, and other services.
  • Observes steam-flow meters, carbon dioxide recorders, pressure and draft gauges and manipulates valves to bring reading within the specified requirements by way of manual or computer operation.
  • Checks equipment while in operation and makes minor repairs.
  • Assist Boiler/HVAC Tech as requested.
  • Attends scheduled meetings and read memos to keep up with changes in hospital and department policies and procedures.
  • Present a neat, well-groomed appearance.
  • Assist with snow and ice removal.
