About The Position

The Transportation Department operates and maintains the city’s streets and traffic control devices. The department is split into two divisions: Streets and Traffic. The Streets Division provides safe and well-maintained streets, alleys, sidewalks and drainage facilities for the use of citizens and residents. The Traffic Division plans, operates and maintains the transportation systems within the city of Irving in a safe, efficient and proactive manner. Requirements

  • Must be able to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.
  • Have basic computer skills.
  • Have a valid Texas driver’s license.
  • Six months of related experience is required.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting with installation and removal of roadway pavement markings using thermoplastic machine, hand-propelled paint striper, grinder and water-jet blasting equipment.
  • Performing installation, maintenance and repair of various traffic signs, street markings, and other roadway traffic control devices.
  • Placing traffic cones and barricades.
  • Cleaning and servicing tools, machinery, equipment and vehicles.
  • Clearing visual obstructions (primarily vegetation) from traffic control devices, intersections and sight lines.
  • Operating various types of equipment, e.g. jackhammer, hydraulic tool system, cutting torch, chain saw and assorted hand tools.
