About The Position

The City of Lynnwood is hiring a Maintenance Worker I for our Public Works Utilities department! Under close supervision, performs physical labor in utilities maintenance.

Requirements

  • One year experience in heavy manual labor or an equivalent combination of related education and experience.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Washington State Driver's License with a driving record acceptable to the City's insurance carrier.
  • Must possess and retain Washington State Traffic Control and work zone safety certifications or be able to obtain within six months of hire.
  • Knowledge of basic safe work practices, including safety precautions for operating power equipment and use of personal protective equipment.
  • Knowledge of basic arithmetic, including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
  • Knowledge of basic traffic rules and regulations.
  • Ability to use standard construction tools, such as hammer, saw, drill, wrench, screwdriver, sprayer, chain saw and other tools and ability to use basic computerized equipment.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work with cleaning fluids, paints, cleaning agents and other solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Set up "safe work zones" for Maintenance Worker IIs; clear vegetation; flag traffic using appropriate signage.
  • Assist designated staff with turning water valves, repairing water leaks, operating television van and camera, retrieving tools, clearing sewage settling basins, pump removal repair and general maintenance.
  • Prepare vehicles for use each morning, ensuring vehicles are properly fueled, cleaned and ready to be used.
  • Assist designated staff in preparing and dismantling the work site by setting up equipment and taking equipment down as needed.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on section equipment as assigned; clean vactor truck and other section vehicles as assigned.
  • Perform vegetation control as assigned.
  • Paint fire hydrant valves as assigned.
  • Change out manholes as assigned.
  • Operate snowplow truck in inclement weather.
  • Lead Community Service personnel and other volunteers as assigned.
  • Perform other general maintenance work as assigned.
  • Maintain regular attendance.
