About The Position

This position starts at a pay rate of $18.07 with a generous benefits package to include health, dental, vision, and life insurance. 11 paid holidays, PTO (paid time off) and pension plan. Under direct supervision, performs semi-skilled and unskilled work to assist in the maintenance and construction of City buildings/streets and equipment. Work involves the maintenance and repair of fences, City buildings, City streets and equipment; assisting with the repair of light equipment assigned to the department. Work also involves assisting with the clearing of land for designated areas and sidewalks; setting up and assisting with special events. Reports to the Public Works Streets Supervisor.

Requirements

Graduation from high school
1 to 2 years’ experience in streets maintenance
Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including tractors, backhoes, bobcats, etc.
Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
The job is rated for Medium Work.

Nice To Haves

Carpentry skills a plus.
Experience with hauling trailers, operating bobcats and backhoes is a plus.

Responsibilities

Perform light and heavy work associated with sidewalk repairs, maintenance and replacement.
Repairs/replaces curbing does minor repairs of asphalt roadways.
Maintains and repairs fences in necessary areas; removes damaged portions of fences; replaces and repairs damaged portions of fences; installs new sections of fences and gates.
Assists in the maintenance and construction of equipment and facilities such as shelters, maintenance shelters, and other structures associated with the Department
Assists supervisor with the maintenance and repair of equipment assigned to the department; assists with routine maintenance of equipment.
Assists with clearing land for new construction; operates heavy equipment, and both hand and power tools.
Performs other work as required.
May be requested (required) to work during a declared emergency and may be requested to work during an undeclared emergency or in the aftermath of an event associated with a declared emergency.
