About The Position

The City of Saratoga Springs is seeking a full-time Maintenance Worker I – Streets for the Public Works Department. This position involves approximately 40 hours per week and reports to the Assistant Public Works Director – Infrastructure, working directly under the Streets Supervisor. The role is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the City's storm drainage systems and streets. The position also serves as an on-call employee for after-hours emergencies and snow plowing.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Some experience working with public works systems or general construction; or an equivalent combination of job-related education and experience.
  • Storm Water Inspector certification within twelve (12) months of hiring.
  • OSHA Confined Space Certification.
  • OSHA Trench Safety Training.
  • First Aid and CPR Certification.
  • Valid Utah CDL class A Driver's License, with a Tanker endorsement or ability to obtain one within 6 months.
  • Knowledge of City policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of storm drainage systems and their functions, operations, and routine maintenance needs.
  • Knowledge of streets, the materials used to construct them, and routine maintenance/repair needs.
  • Knowledge of basic street signage as per MUTCD.
  • Knowledge of basic computer operations and applications.
  • Knowledge of correct use of the English language and vocabulary.
  • Ability to interact with the public in all situations while maintaining a professional, pleasant, and courteous demeanor.
  • Ability to follow City policies and procedures.
  • Ability to maintain records and task lists.
  • Ability to operate moderate to heavy equipment needed to perform maintenance duties.
  • Ability to review and interpret basic to moderately difficult building and construction plans for public utility systems.
  • Ability to communicate in a concise, effective, and professional manner by telephone, in writing, and in person.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with developers, contractors, citizens, coworkers, and supervisors.

Responsibilities

  • Inspection of all public streets, repair of damaged streets and coordination of street maintenance.
  • Setting forms, pouring and finishing concrete and raking asphalt in the construction, maintenance, and repair of streets, curbs, gutters, driveways, alleys, and sidewalks.
  • Operating light vehicles such as pickups to transport light rollers and to perform specialized maintenance functions; traffic striping and sign painting; operating light roller to compact asphalt patching.
  • Performing maintenance, operations, and cleaning of the City's entire drainage system.
  • Complying with applicable federal, state, and local codes and regulations related to storm drain maintenance.
  • Operating pickup and dump trucks, backhoe, loader, skid steer, and other maintenance equipment; performing routine maintenance on equipment.
  • Monitoring drainage systems during storms, removing blockages as necessary to maintain flow.
  • Performing storm clean-up.
  • Removing trash and debris built up on grates and inlet wings during and after storms, monitoring problem areas prone to flooding.
  • Snow plowing of public streets.
  • General maintenance duties of public facilities as assigned.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
