About The Position

As a seasonal Maintenance Worker at the Amherst Visitor Information Centre, you are a part of a team responsible for assisting with the maintenance of the interior and exterior of the building and grounds including required janitorial duties. This opportunity would be a great fit for an individual that enjoys being outside and likes working with various types of equipment. This position requires working outside in various types of weather. This position reports to the Maintenance Supervisor.

Requirements

  • Two (2) years related experience working in a maintenance environment.
  • Knowledge and experience in general handyperson skills, painting, building and grounds maintenance, and general equipment maintenance as required.
  • A positive attitude and ability to speak confidently and professionally when addressing visitors and staff within the facility.
  • Ability to work well independently and in team settings, valuing and respecting a diverse and inclusive environment.
  • Basic computer skills, including use of software packages such as Microsoft Office (Outlook and Word).
  • Experience and strong knowledge of maintenance operations
  • Strong aptitude for safe operation of equipment, general maintenance, and repair
  • Knowledge of cleaning methods and sanitation requirements
  • Certification in First Aid and WHIMIS
  • Must have a driver’s license.
  • Ability to lift/carry 50+lbs of equipment over varying terrain

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining the grounds (mowing, planting, seeding, weeding, cutting and trimming trees and bushes), minor repairs (flagpole repair, painting, and plumbing), routine equipment and tools maintenance, janitorial (cleaning and stocking the washrooms, cleaning the windows, floors and dusting) and maintaining cleaning supplies.
  • Assisting with site maintenance, equipment inventories, security checks, opening and closing procedures and other duties as required.
  • Working in varying weather conditions and wet/cold environments.
  • Providing professional customer service and relations to visitors.
  • Working safely by following the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and Workplace policies all safe work practices.
