About The Position

The Baillie Group, a leader in the hardwood lumber industry since 1923, is seeking a skilled Maintenance Technician for its Smyrna, NY sawmill. This role is crucial for supporting safe, efficient, and reliable operations by maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing setting.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs. and working in varying environmental conditions.
  • Willing to train on 1st shift, but this will be a 2nd shift role.

Nice To Haves

  • A 2-year degree/certificate in electrical/electronic, mechanical, hydraulic, or pneumatic fields preferred.
  • Previous experience in electrical, welding, or mechanical work strongly preferred.
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced, industrial/manufacturing environment.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to quickly identify and resolve issues.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team, including strong communication with operators and supervisors.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on electrical/electronic, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems and components.
  • Apply knowledge of electrical/electronic and mechanical principles to diagnose equipment malfunctions and restore equipment to proper operation.
  • Provide skilled maintenance support across all manufacturing areas, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum efficiency.
  • Troubleshoot and repair a wide range of equipment, including programmable logic controllers (PLCs), drives, gauges, power supplies, and test equipment.
  • Assist in the installation, modification, and upgrade of machinery and support systems.
  • Document maintenance activities and communicate effectively with operations staff to ensure issues are resolved in a timely manner.
  • Follow all company safety protocols and maintain a safe, organized work environment.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support the needs of the sawmill.
