About The Position

The Maintenance Technician III is a fully qualified industrial maintenance technician who independently diagnoses, repairs, and maintains production equipment in areas such as sheet metal, welding, forming, and machining. The role handles routine to moderately complex mechanical and electrical failures, performs preventive maintenance, supports equipment reliability, and documents work in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS). The technician works within the direction of the Maintenance Lead and Maintenance Manager, provides practical support to the apprentice when assigned, and escalates advanced controls, CNC, spindle, servo, and major equipment failures when specialized support is needed. The position supports a range of production equipment and auxiliary systems, including CNC machining centers and lathes, hydraulic forming presses, press brakes, welding and fabrication equipment, air compressors and dryers, pumps, and chillers. It is based on-site at the El Cajon, California location, four days per week, Tuesday through Friday. The role is performed in an aerospace manufacturing environment with operating machinery and other industrial hazards; required PPE must be worn.

  • Demonstrated ability to independently troubleshoot and repair industrial mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Working knowledge of CNC and production equipment support, electrical and mechanical schematics, preventive maintenance practices, and safe use of diagnostic equipment.
  • Ability to organize work, communicate clearly, document maintenance activities accurately, and work effectively with limited supervision.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand instructions, procedures, safety information, and technical documentation in English.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds; stand and walk for extended periods; bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb ladders, and work at elevated locations; use hand and power tools; and access machinery for inspection and repair.

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or GED; education is preferred but not required when equivalent experience and capability are demonstrated.
  • Trade-school or certificate training in industrial maintenance, electrical, mechanical, mechatronics, machining, or a related field.
  • PLC diagnostic experience.
  • Basic welding or fabrication skills.
  • Aerospace manufacturing experience.
  • General facilities maintenance knowledge.
  • Basic PLC troubleshooting experience is preferred but not required.
  • Basic welding and fabrication capability for equipment repairs or modifications is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, repair, install, adjust, and maintain production equipment and related auxiliary systems.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic failures using safe troubleshooting methods, technical documentation, schematics, drawings, machine history, and diagnostic instruments.
  • Perform assigned preventive and predictive maintenance, inspections, lubrication, adjustments, component replacements, and equipment condition checks.
  • Respond to corrective work orders and production breakdowns, restore equipment safely and efficiently, and communicate equipment status, repair needs, and next steps.
  • Complete routine through moderately complex repairs independently and assist the Lead with major repairs, precision work, advanced diagnostics, installations, shutdown projects, and OEM or contractor support.
  • Record labor, failures, repairs, parts, and follow-up information in the CMMS; promptly close assigned work orders and identify recurring failures or opportunities to improve preventive maintenance and reliability.
  • Inspect repaired equipment, verify proper operation, reinstall guards and safety devices, and return equipment to service only after confirming it is safe to operate.
  • Provide task-level guidance and practical support to the maintenance apprentice when assigned; this does not include formal supervisory authority.
  • Maintain tools, test equipment, work areas, and spare parts in orderly condition and support 5S and housekeeping standards.
  • Coordinate with production, quality, engineering, EHS, vendors, and outside service technicians to resolve equipment issues and minimize downtime.
  • Safely troubleshoot and repair industrial electrical systems, motors, motor starters, contactors, overloads, relays, control transformers, fuses, circuit protection, and control circuits.
  • Diagnose VFD, sensor, proximity switch, limit switch, solenoid, interlock, and machine-control faults; perform basic PLC input and output diagnostics when qualified.
  • Diagnose and repair hydraulic and pneumatic components, and maintain and repair mechanical drives and machine assemblies.
  • Perform alignment, adjustment, disassembly, replacement, reassembly, and functional testing using appropriate tools and safe lifting and rigging practices.
