About The Position

PKM Steel Service, Inc. is seeking an advanced Maintenance Technician III to provide technical expertise and support the reliability of our industrial manufacturing operations. The Maintenance Technician III is an advanced multi-craft position responsible for diagnosing complex mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, CNC, VFD, and PLC-related equipment problems. This position serves as a technical resource to other maintenance personnel and is expected to resolve complex equipment failures with minimal outside assistance.

Requirements

  • Qualified by reason of education and/or experience.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of industrial maintenance experience or equivalent technical experience.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to independently diagnose complex industrial equipment failures.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and mechanical drawings.
  • Strong hydraulic and pneumatic troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience with VFDs and industrial motor controls.
  • Working knowledge of PLC-controlled equipment.
  • Strong understanding of industrial safety practices.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to train and mentor other maintenance employees.

Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance.
  • Diagnose complex equipment failures and determine root cause.
  • Troubleshoot industrial electrical systems, including 480V equipment where qualified.
  • Troubleshoot motor control systems, starters, contactors, overloads, transformers, safety circuits, sensors, and control systems.
  • Troubleshoot and configure VFDs and motor drives.
  • Troubleshoot PLC-controlled equipment and PLC input/output problems.
  • Diagnose HMI and machine-control issues.
  • Troubleshoot industrial communication and control systems.
  • Troubleshoot CNC equipment and associated electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Diagnose complex hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Troubleshoot overhead crane systems.
  • Perform advanced mechanical alignment and equipment repairs.
  • Perform welding, fabrication, equipment modifications, and machine improvements.
  • Perform root-cause analysis on recurring equipment failures.
  • Recommend PM and predictive-maintenance improvements.
  • Identify equipment reliability concerns and recommend corrective actions.
  • Assist with equipment installation and commissioning.
  • Work directly with equipment manufacturers, controls technicians, contractors, and vendors.
  • Assist with capital improvement and equipment upgrade projects.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation.
  • Provide technical assistance during major equipment breakdowns and shutdowns.
  • Follow all safety procedures, including Lockout/Tagout.
