About The Position

The Maintenance Supervisor ensures the highest standards of museum maintenance, safety, and cleanliness for the Museum’s visitors, programs, and staff. They supervise a 6-person maintenance team, coordinate shift hand off with the Chief Maintainer, and contribute to projects directed by the Facilities Director, Building Engineer, and Senior Special Events Producer. They will work alongside members of the Security and Visitor Experience teams and oversee all facility maintenance needs in public areas, exterior areas, and non-public Office Spaces. The Maintenance Supervisor is also responsible for the organization, maintenance, and upkeep of all general museum storage and back-of-house areas. Reports to the Facilities Director. The Maintenance Supervisor will work 8-hour shifts Wednesday – Sunday starting as early as 1pm and working as late as midnight. The schedule will vary based on Museum public hours and events.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Four years of maintenance supervision or related experience at a cultural institution
  • Outstanding staff supervision ability
  • Strong communications skills
  • Strong computer literacy
  • Capable of initiating correspondence around events and logistics
  • Maintain schedules efficiently
  • Proficiency in online supply purchasing, tracking inventory, and contributing to end-of-year budget reviews
  • Must be able to follow instructions
  • Must be able to safely perform the physical requirements of the position, including, but not limited to lifting, climbing stairs and ladders, and standing for extending periods of time.
  • Must be able to work well with public, fellow maintenance staff, and other Museum employees.
  • Participation in education programs and customer service training is also required.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise maintenance staff ensuring that all tasks are completed to museum standards during their shifts, spot check and inspect their work and track performance.
  • Create, review, sign, and monitor the daily maintenance check lists, take corrective action when necessary, and ensure Facility Director is informed of any lapses.
  • Perform general maintenance of electrical and plumbing systems, make repairs, including minor carpentry as needed.
  • Anticipate and address maintenance needs/issues before they are noticeable to supervisor, museum staff and donors, and the general public.
  • Coordinate with Visitor Experience and Restaurant on maintenance and upkeep needs.
  • Monitor, inventory, and store all cleaning and maintenance supplies.
  • Coordinate maintenance staff schedule accordingly for special events, public programs, exhibition openings, and rental events.
  • Facilitate internal deliveries, storage of files, and retrieval of supplies as requested by museum staff.
  • Inspect the entire premises daily and report anything out of the ordinary to the Facilities Director and Building Engineer.
  • Support the Facilities Director and handle special assignments as needed.
