About The Position

As a Maintenance Specialist, you play a vital behind‑the‑scenes role in creating safe, welcoming, and functional spaces where people can focus on recovery, stability, and rebuilding their lives. From preparing apartment units to responding to maintenance needs, your work directly supports the well‑being of residents, staff, and the broader community. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • At least one year of building maintenance or construction‑related experience or completion of a trades training program
  • Demonstrated ability (or strong aptitude and willingness to learn) basic maintenance skills including drywall, painting, plumbing, and carpentry
  • Comfort using power tools and performing physical work (lifting up to 75 lbs, working on ladders, navigating stairs)
  • Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and adapt to changing needs
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • A valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and ability to travel between Avivo sites
  • Interest in working in a mission‑driven, people‑centered environment

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and turn over apartment units by completing painting, drywall, and light repair work
  • Perform general building maintenance, including minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and repairs
  • Support year‑round grounds maintenance, including snow removal, landscaping, and trash removal
  • Move and set up furniture in apartments and offices as needed
  • Respond to maintenance requests and after‑hours emergencies when required
  • Follow safety, security, and emergency procedures to ensure safe environments for residents and staff
  • Provide respectful, customer‑focused service aligned with Avivo’s values
  • Collaborate with Volunteer Services when volunteer support is involved in facilities work
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold the dignity of participants in all interactions
  • Contribute to Avivo’s commitment to undoing racism and reducing disparities through daily practice
