Maintenance Specialist I
About The Position
Performs entry-level building maintenance and construction work. Work involves assisting in maintaining and repairing buildings, utility systems, and stationary equipment; and operating motorized equipment. Works under close supervision, with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. This is a TEMPORARY position to start ASAP. Employees will be employed by and paid by Goodwill of Central East Texas Inc. This position is not hired by the state's office but rather, through Goodwill. Temporary position is through a state set-aside contract aimed at helping people with disabling conditions find employment.
Requirements
- Knowledge of the construction, repair, maintenance, and operation of buildings, equipment, and utility systems.
- Skill in the use and maintenance of tools and equipment.
- Ability to follow instructions; to work from drawings, diagrams, or blueprints; and to communicate effectively.
- Experience in construction, maintenance, and repair work.
- Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent is generally preferred.
- Employees have a qualifying disabling condition.
- Must be able to provide documentation from a third party such as a doctor that you have a disability that affects your daily life.

Responsibilities
- Performs maintenance, construction, and repair work such as masonry, welding, carpentry, painting, or mechanical work.
- May assist with the preventative maintenance and repair of machinery, equipment, and utility systems.
- May repair and upholster furniture.
- Loads and unloads trucks.
- Moves furniture, office equipment, refuse, garbage, and heavy supplies and equipment.
- Performs related work as assigned.
- May repair equipment and fabricate parts for repairs.
- May assist with plumbing; electrical; or heating, ventilation, and air conditioning work.
