About The Position

As a Maintenance Specialist I, you’ll play a key role in maintaining Devens’ facilities, roads, utilities, and grounds. Working independently and as part of a team, you’ll perform a wide range of maintenance and operational tasks to ensure public spaces and infrastructure remain safe, functional, and well-maintained. We’re seeking a dependable, skilled professional who can work with minimal supervision and respond effectively to both routine and emergency maintenance needs.

Requirements

  • 5–10 years of proven experience in facilities, roads, grounds, utilities, or building maintenance (or a combination thereof)
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Massachusetts Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with air brake endorsement
  • Valid Massachusetts Class 1C, 2B, and Hoisting Engineer’s License
  • Strong working knowledge of heavy equipment and commercial vehicles
  • Ability to respond to emergencies and work in varying weather and environmental conditions
  • Understanding of and commitment to workplace concepts related to diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-oppression

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred license or certification in a municipal specialty such as Electrical, HVAC, Plumbing, Mechanical, or a related trade

Responsibilities

  • Perform general maintenance and repairs across buildings, utilities, roads, sidewalks, and grounds, utilizing skills in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, painting, and related trades
  • Respond to routine and emergency maintenance needs, including system failures, storm impacts, and hazardous conditions, by taking immediate action to protect people, property, and operations
  • Operate and maintain a variety of commercial vehicles, heavy equipment, and power tools to support infrastructure, grounds, and seasonal operations such as snow removal, pothole repair, clean-up efforts, and community events
  • Conduct basic inspections, maintenance, and minor repairs on vehicles and equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation
  • Perform physically demanding tasks, including heavy lifting, climbing, bending, prolonged standing, and working in varying weather conditions
  • Complete work orders and accurately track time, equipment usage, materials, and supplies
  • Monitor conditions in the field and proactively communicate maintenance issues, risks, and recommended solutions to management
  • Maintain accountability for assigned tools, equipment, and materials
  • Perform related duties as assigned

  • In addition to base pay, this role includes a fixed stipend provided as part of the overall compensation package. The stipend is paid on a regular basis in accordance with company policy.
