About The Position

The Florida Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking motivated, dynamic individuals to join their team at the Clyde E. Lassen State Veterans’ Nursing Home. This skilled nursing facility boasts a loyal team of long-term employees and a fantastic work culture. The incumbent will work under the supervision of the Utilities and Maintenance Superintendent. The duties and responsibilities include repair and maintenance of the physical plant, property, equipment, and mechanical systems of the State Veterans’ Home. The Maintenance Repairman will assist to ensure a safe environment exists in compliance with all Federal, State and Local requirements.

Requirements

  • One (1) year of experience in the maintenance and repair of buildings, plumbing, and mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English (reading, writing, and speaking).
  • Must be available to be on call and after hours for callbacks or shift work at night, at weekends, and state holidays when necessary.
  • Must be physically able to bend at the waist, kneel, climb and crouch, able to work near loud noises and electrical equipment, work in basements, and tight spaces.
  • Must successfully complete our pre-employment screening to include, but not limited to, drug tests and finger printing.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with a long-term care or hospital environment with a geriatric population.
  • Experience with Plumbing, HVAC, and Electrical equipment.
  • Possess a high school diploma or GED.
  • Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Performs routine preventative maintenance to ensure that machines continue to run smoothly, building systems operate efficiently and the physical condition of the buildings does not deteriorate.
  • Provides routine repair services to defective equipment, repairs physical plant deficiencies, resolves routine work orders, assists with the assembly, delivery, and installation of facility equipment.
  • Documents actions and outcomes of preventative maintenance efforts, repair services and other routine actions to assist the Maintenance Superintendent in maintenance of a concise record of services rendered.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment, assists the Maintenance Superintendent with maintaining a focus on safety and accident prevention throughout the facility.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
  • Follows FDVA; Homes Program; and facility policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Communicate effectively with staff, residents, and vendors.
  • Follows the preventative maintenance plan.
  • Completes tasks in a timely manner and documents outcomes.
  • Maintains tools, work equipment and work area in a clean, organized manner.
  • Supports a safe and accident-free environment.
  • Is willing to learn new procedures and techniques.
  • Accept assignments and instruction in an agreeable manner.
  • Attends and completes in-service training by posted training schedule.
  • May be required to be on “emergency call status” as designated by the supervisor.
