About The Position

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) is seeking a Maintenance Repair Worker 3 (Grounds) for its Facilities Management department. This role involves performing semi-skilled work in the building and mechanical trades to repair, construct, and maintain buildings, facilities, and equipment. Incumbents will possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others. The primary duties focus on the maintenance of campus grounds, including parking lot and sidewalk upkeep, assisting other trades with underground installations and general repairs, and operating various light to medium equipment. Specific tasks include repairs and installations of concrete or other cast surfaces, asphalt application, maintenance and repair of outdoor fixtures like fences, and installation of various types of signage.

Requirements

  • Two years of experience performing semi-skilled work in the relevant building and/or mechanical trades; OR one year of experience as a Maintenance Repair Worker II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A valid class C driver’s license is required at the time of appointment.
  • All certifications and licenses must be kept current as a condition of continued employment.
  • Forklift Certification, Dust Control, and Boom Lift within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Maintenance of campus grounds, with work relating to parking lot and sidewalk maintenance.
  • Assist other trades regarding underground installation and general repairs.
  • Operate light to medium equipment, to include backhoe, trencher, forklift, dump truck, compactor, core drill power saw, street sweeper and steam pressure washer.
  • Repairs to existing or installation of concrete or other cast surfaces, to include grading, compacting, forming, pouring, finishing and setting pavers.
  • Installation of both cold and hot asphalt using proper application techniques.
  • Maintenance and repair of outdoor fixtures, to include fences (block and chain link).
  • Installation of various types of signage (concrete, directional, and roadway).
