About The Position

This position is located in a National Park Service Unit. The primary purpose of the position is to perform building and/or utility maintenance and operation duties. The incumbent utilizes journeyman knowledge and skills in several trades and crafts.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
  • Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
  • Direct Deposit: Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
  • Driver's License: You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required. You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you.
  • Uniform: You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
  • Work Schedule: You may be required to work evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work.
  • Minimum Age Requirements: applicants must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program.
  • Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (SCREEN OUT)

  • Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment
  • Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation Repair, etc.
  • Knowledge of materials, Technical Practices (theoretical precise, artistic), and Use of Measuring Instruments
  • SCREEN OUT: Minimum Qualifications: Ability to perform most of the work as a Maintenance Mechanic at the journeyman level. At this level, I have performed the work with a high level of independence. I have performed at this level in two of the following trades: Carpentry, Plumbing, Painting, Masonry, Water Treatment Plant Operations, or Roofing. If your knowledge and ability in the SCREEN OUT factor above is not sufficient, you will receive no further consideration.   • ICTAP/CTAP Statement: Current surplus and current or former displaced Federal individuals who have special priority selection rights under the Agency Career Transition Assistance Program (CTAP) or the Interagency Career Transition Assistance Program (ICTAP) must be well qualified for the position to receive consideration for special priority selection. Responsibilities

  • Constructs, alters, modifies or repairs a wide range of features in buildings, quarters and other facilities.
  • Constructs storage areas, workrooms, and offices within existing buildings including framework, rafters, joists, insulation, sheet rock, paneling, doors, windows, and flooring.
  • Installs, modifies, and repairs new and existing utility, supply, and disposal systems and equipment such as sewage, water, oil, and gas distribution systems.
  • Paints, decorates, and refinishes a variety of interior and exterior surfaces of offices and buildings, and family dwellings.
  • Troubleshoots, and completes electrical work such as removing, replacing, tightening, splicing, soldering, and insulating defective wiring, controls, equipment, and fixtures.
  • Operates motor grader to fine grade road materials to specified thickness or grade stakes.
  • Operates a wide variety of maintenance vehicles to unload/dispose of trash, hauling and dumping debris, hauling road materials such as gravel, sand, asphalt.
