About The Position

NeighborHealth, formerly East Boston Neighborhood Health Center, is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic II to perform regular maintenance duties, including minor specialized tasks such as carpentry/construction, floor and plumbing repair, groundskeeping, and housekeeping across all NeighborHealth locations. This role also involves providing mechanical preventative maintenance on NeighborHealth systems and equipment, assisting other mechanics on projects, and being on call for off-hours emergencies on a rotated, bi-weekly basis. The position is full-time and part of the Facilities department.

Requirements

Technical training and/or at least three year’s experience as a maintenance person.
Basic knowledge of plumbing, H.V.A.C., carpentry, electricity and repairing equipment.
Good communication and organizational skills.
Ability to work independently.
Must have a valid driver’s license and good driving record.

Responsibilities

Perform regular maintenance related duties along with some minor specialized duties such as small scale carpentry/construction, floor and plumbing repair along with grounds keeping and housekeeping to all NeighborHealth locations.
Provide mechanical preventative maintenance on NeighborHealth systems and equipment such as belt and filter changes.
Assist Lead Mechanic and other mechanics on projects which would require assistance.
Remain on call twenty-four hours/day for any problems occurring during off-hours, on a rotated, bi-weekly basis.
Remain on call for emergencies.
Ability to work independently on small scale projects or requests.
Perform a variety of mid-skilled work for maintenance, repair and construction at all health locations. Including ductwork installation, lock repairs, furniture set ups, plumbing and electrical.
Perform various maintenance and repairs on refrigeration, plumbing, heating and air conditioning equipment.
Operate a variety of equipment and machines including saws and various hand and power tools to perform repair and maintenance work.
Perform scheduled preventative maintenance including daily grounds keeping and general maintenance of entranceways, parking lots, wells, and the neighborhood surrounding the property.
Perform tasks when requested such as biohazard containment pick up, replacing light bulbs, and shredder pick ups.
Perform weekly tasks including cleaning interior of Facilities’ Vehicles, cleaning shop, fire pump testing, inspecting oxygen supply, and inspecting and testing eye washes & emergency showers.
Perform bi-weekly tasks such as receiving paper goods.
Perform monthly tasks such as changing filters, checking backflow pressure gauges, checking blood/body fluid kits, checking dehumidifiers, checking isolation rooms, checking P-traps, checking pumps in basements, cleaning bathroom vents, cleaning gutters & clearing drains, cleaning wells, inspecting and servicing emergency generators, and trash pick up.
Perform bi-monthly tasks such as inspecting and cleaning dryer vent duct and manually swapping pumps.
Perform quarterly tasks such as changing HEPA filters, changing HVAC filters, changing RTU filters, checking restroom floor traps, cleaning condenser coils, cleaning washable HVAC filters, greasing recirculating pumps, inspecting and cleaning fresh air makeup intake exhaust, and opening & inspecting blood & body fluid cleaning kits.
Perform biannual tasks such as changing water filters, checking/adding oil to boiler room pumps, checking/cleaning dirty utility rooms, checking eyewash stations, testing circulate booster pumps, cleaning filters, inspecting smoke walls, and maintenance of back flow preventors.
Perform triennial tasks such as ejection pump alarm test and inspecting waste lines.
Perform annual tasks such as changing batteries & inspecting all emergency lights, changing batteries & inspecting all exit lights, cooling – turn on, cut back trees, drain fuel and store snow blowers, ejector pump clean out, emergency generator load test, gear heater element – plug in/unplug in, humidistat unplug/plug in, inspecting electrical outlets, inspecting GFI receptacles & breakers, inspecting sprinkler system - visual, install planters, lower boiler temperature, lower discharge temperature, raise discharge temperature, remove planters, repaint HP symbols & lines in parking lots, test all restroom alarms, test crash bars, tune up snow blowers, turn off heaters, and turn on heaters.
Perform routine maintenance including repair toilets, install and repair dispensers, key control, make keys, and repair locks, make signs, name tags, doorplates, set up conference rooms for meetings, escort repairmen, meter readers, outside vendors, move inventory, keep storage areas in orderly condition, change lights, and patching and painting of walls.
Respond to staff requests for emergency services.
Continue work on all unfinished work orders.
Perform light construction.
Backup to housekeeping.
Decontamination of rooms/areas where Blood/Body fluid spills have occurred.
Conduct weekly walk through of all buildings replacing light bulbs and noting any maintenance concerns.
Perform preventative, routine and regulatory inspections.
Perform other related duties as requested.
