About The Position

This role is responsible for operating and maintaining various building systems, including hot water and steam boilers, chillers, and air conditioners. The position involves troubleshooting and repairing malfunctions, performing plumbing and electrical work, and assisting with general building upkeep and remodeling tasks. The Maintenance Mechanic II is expected to work independently, follow safety standards, and contribute to continuous quality improvement initiatives within the hospital environment.

Requirements

Operate and maintain hot water and steam boilers.
Troubleshoot and repair minor boiler malfunctions.
Perform chemical tests and regulate chemical feeds and blow downs.
Perform plumbing and electrical work on and around boilers.
Inspect and repair steam fixtures (traps, valves, reducers, strainers, coils).
Start, stop, and switch over boilers.
Operate and maintain chillers and air conditioners.
Troubleshoot minor chiller and air conditioner malfunctions.
Assist in finding and repairing leaks in chiller and AC systems.
Perform repair and overhaul of equipment.
Perform minor electrical work.
Document all electrical tests.
Assist in the maintenance and upkeep of shop drawings, record files, service manuals, and parts manuals.
Requisition parts and supplies for approved work orders and assignments.
Assist with painting, plastering, carpentry, ceiling and floor tiles installations, and minor remodeling.
Maintain PM program.
Keep current with projects and work requests.
Maintain all required records, reports, and statistics.
Assist in the care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies.
Maintain a clean and organized work area.
Assist with yard work (mowing, weed eating, snow removal).
Work independently with minimal supervision.
Follow all Hospital Safety standards.
Participate in Safety training.
Maintain professional growth and development.
Participate in educational programs and in-service meetings.
Develop a proactive mindset toward the job.
Observe opportunities for improvement, formulate ideas, and communicate them.

Be knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs regarding fraud, waste, and abuse.
Bring any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff.
Take appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.
Demonstrate the ability to utilize Life Safety Code and NFPA Code to create a safe and compliant facility for patient care.

Responsibilities

Operate and maintain hot water and steam boilers, including troubleshooting, repair, chemical testing, and plumbing/electrical work.
Inspect and repair steam fixtures such as traps, valves, reducers, strainers, and coils.
Start, stop, and switch over boilers.
Operate and maintain chillers and air conditioners, troubleshooting minor malfunctions and assisting with leak repairs.
Perform equipment repair and overhaul.
Perform minor electrical work and document all electrical tests.
Assist in maintaining shop drawings, record files, service manuals, and parts manuals.
Requisition parts and supplies for work orders.
Assist with painting, plastering, carpentry, ceiling and floor tile installation, and minor remodeling.
Maintain the Preventive Maintenance (PM) program and stay current with projects and work requests.
Maintain all required records, reports, and statistics.
Assist in the care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies, and maintain a clean and organized work area.
Assist with yard work, including mowing, weed eating, and snow removal.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Work independently with minimal supervision.
Follow all Hospital Safety standards and participate in Safety training.
Maintain professional growth and development by participating in educational programs and in-service meetings.
