Maintenance Helper - Centralized Maintenance
About The Position
The Maintenance Helper works at Freeport-McMoRan’s Morenci operations, an open-pit copper mining complex located approximately 50 miles northeast of Safford, Arizona. The role safely assists with maintenance and repair of heavy equipment, including haul trucks, water trucks, dozers, front-end loaders, and motor graders. The helper supports journeyman mechanics, performs or assists with preventive maintenance, documents work, troubleshoots equipment problems, and maintains a clean, checked work area. The role may also involve operating forklifts, cranes, and small mobile equipment. The position is based at a 24/7, 365-day operation. Employees may be required to work a non-standard schedule, including shifts other than day shift. Candidates may need to pass a medical exam and required training or testing. The employer conducts mandatory pre-employment drug testing and ongoing drug and alcohol testing as permitted by law.
Requirements
- Understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures given in English.
- Communicate in English about job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards.
- Complete required academic and practical competencies, including applicable Line of Progression requirements for internal employees.
- Demonstrate the required aptitude and ability to apply knowledge and skills.
- Pass a written assessment when required, based on relevant skills, abilities, academic knowledge, and safety.
- Pass any required medical exam, training, and testing.
- Comply with mandatory pre-employment drug testing and ongoing drug and alcohol testing as allowed by applicable laws.
Nice To Haves

- Previous experience demonstrating mechanical aptitude.
Responsibilities
- Safely assist with maintenance and repair of heavy equipment, including haul trucks, water trucks, rubber-tire and track dozers, front-end loaders, and motor graders.
- Assist journeyman mechanics with maintenance activities on transmissions, engines, brakes, differentials, pumps, motors, torque converters, final drives, and other heavy equipment systems.
- Assist with and perform preventive maintenance activities on heavy equipment.
- Complete work orders and other maintenance documentation.
- Troubleshoot equipment problems.
- Perform housekeeping duties and work area checks.
- May operate forklifts, cranes, and small mobile equipment.
- Perform other duties as required.
