About The Position

The Maintenance & Groundskeeping employee provides hands-on maintenance services for the buildings, grounds, and vehicles at Sacred Heart Parish in Lacey, Washington. The role performs preventive maintenance, diagnoses and repairs building systems and parish vehicles, checks boilers, secures buildings, prepares spaces for special events, removes litter, and maintains grounds and equipment. The position works indoors and outdoors throughout the year and involves physical maintenance tasks and professional, respectful interaction with parishioners and guests.

Requirements

Ability to lift at least 50 pounds.
Successful completion of an Archdiocese of Seattle background check.
Previous maintenance work experience.
Working knowledge of plumbing, carpentry, electrical, HVAC, and related mechanical and building systems.
Current driver's license.
Some experience with construction, plumbing, electrical work, grounds maintenance, or related areas.
Proven experience as a handyman or facility maintenance worker.
Experience with hardware tools and electrical equipment.
Basic understanding of electrical, plumbing, mechanical, or HVAC systems.
Ability to complete the physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
Ability to scale ladders and use mechanical lifts to access roofs and high-reach areas.
Ability to frequently move boxes weighing up to 50 pounds across campus.
Ability to stand, kneel, reach, bend, grab, hold, and twist to perform maintenance tasks.
Ability to walk, bend, stand, or kneel for the duration of the shift.
Ability to carry and use tools and equipment, including vacuums, backpack vacuums, mops, brooms, brushes, ladders, stools, riding mowers, saws, and lawn equipment.
Ability to work with chemical cleaning agents.
Ability and willingness to engage with parishioners and guests professionally and respectfully.
Must pass required background check and drug screenings.
Must provide three references who are not related to the applicant.

Responsibilities

Perform preventive maintenance on buildings and grounds to minimize plumbing, mechanical, electrical, heating, and air-conditioning system failures.
Diagnose building problems and make needed repairs.
Diagnose problems with parish vehicles and maintenance equipment and make needed repairs.
Check boilers for proper operation and make adjustments as appropriate.
Secure buildings when they are not in use.
Set up chairs, tables, and other equipment for special events.
Collect and remove litter from the grounds daily.
Maintain grounds through mowing, watering, pruning, fertilizing, planting, and leaf removal.
Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on hand and power equipment used in the role.
Perform other duties as assigned.
