About The Position

This position performs tasks to construct, troubleshoot, repair and maintain State facilities within the guidelines of current State Statutes and codes in the most efficient and economical manner possible. Through maintenance and repair, protect the State`s building assets, improve structure longevity and provide for safety and comfort of the building occupants and members of the public. Requirements

  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, installation, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Logical, systematic, sequential approach to address problems or opportunities or manage a situation by drawing on one’s knowledge and experience base and calling on other references and resources as necessary.
  • Thoroughness when performing work and conscientiousness about attending to detail.
  • Valid Alaska Driver`s License.
  • Knowledge of basic mathematics and the safe and proper use and care of tools common to equipment and building maintenance.
  • Ability to locate and use shop and manufacturer’s reference books and manuals.
  • Ability to perform limited construction and maintenance repairs using appropriate tools.
  • Ability to perform minor maintenance and repair on hand and power tools and equipment used in the work.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work.
  • Ability to read and write.
  • Ability to follow and apply written and oral directions and safety sheets.
  • Ability to complete written reports, e.g., time sheets, incident reports, material requests.
  • Ability to learn and safely handle construction, maintenance wastes and hazardous materials.
  • Ability to respond to emergency situations following established procedures.
