About The Position

Martin County is currently accepting applications for a full-time Maintenance Crew Foreman with the Martin County Highway Department. The Highway Maintenance Foreman directs work assignments to maintenance workers on a daily basis for a variety of maintenance activities and supervises the overall operations of the Heavy Equipment operators. Works with road superintendent to determine equipment and manpower needed. Carries the responsibility for completion of maintenance projects and safety of the crew. Implements and enforces all County policies and guidelines. Assumes the road superintendent’s duties in his absence.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• Five years of progressive experience in related field along with the skills, knowledge and abilities required; or equivalent combined education and experience.
• Valid Class A CDL driver’s License
• Strong working knowledge of highway maintenance operations, related machinery and related quality requirements.
• Strong working knowledge of the equipment, materials, methods and practices used in highway maintenance operations.
• Ability to plan, organize, direct and coordinate highway maintenance activities.
• General knowledge of related maintenance and service costs, and financial analysis of revenues and expenditures.
• Ability to supervise personnel in a manner conducive to efficient performance and high morale.
• Ability to train other employees in an efficient, effective manner.
• Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.
• Knowledge of personnel administration.
• Ability to operate general office equipment including maintenance related applications on a PC or tablet computer.
• Ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with others and to present ideas effectively, orally and in writing.
• Takes personal responsibility for the quality and timeliness of work, and achieves results with limited oversight.
• Follows instructions and adheres to all County policies and procedures as required.

Responsibilities

• Directs the work of personnel and the crew on various assigned maintenance activities, to include crew organization, equipment and supplies.
• Confers daily with Highway Maintenance Superintendent to determine projects and priorities and assigns work accordingly.
• Ensures compliance with County policies and procedures and enforces safety precautions in all maintenance activities.
• Operates and maintains all heavy and light equipment in addition to various units of specialized equipment as required.
• Participates in the training of new personnel and helps establish guidelines for maintenance procedures and equipment operations.
• Performs and supervises preventive maintenance on equipment, buildings and tools.
• Maintains personal responsibility for designated pieces of equipment and tools to include their appearance and general condition.
• Carries the responsibility for work zone safety and implements use of personal and traffic control items for this purpose.
• Works with various work programs other than County Highway projects such as stream maintenance grants, County parks, other government units, railroads, etc., in the completion of special projects.
• Maintains an effective working relationship with department employees and the public.
• Assumes the duties and responsibilities of the Maintenance Superintendent in his absence.
• Involved with ordering new equipment, tools and supplies.
• Participates in the hiring and training of new employees.
• Helps establish guidelines for maintenance procedures and equipment operations.
• Participates in continuing education and training sessions on position applicable law and regulation changes, computer skills and other position related matters.
• Ensures required certification and licensure credentials remain valid.
• Performs other work-related duties as required.
