About The Position

Reporting to the Associate Warden at a minimum-custody female correctional facility, this position is located in the Maintenance Department and is responsible for performing preventive and routine corrective maintenance tasks and ensuring that assigned systems, equipment and facilities are maintained in a safe and efficient manner. Other job responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following: 1. Possessing multiple trade skills to allow individual to deal with a variety of maintenance tasks that will be dealt with on a routine basis, such as emergency generators, gate operators, plumbing systems, electrical systems, and security doors. 2. Preparing preventive maintenance reports and maintaining inventory of repair parts. 3. Functioning at two journey levels, one for mechanical/plumbing and the other preferably HVAC/refrigeration while performing at the semi-skilled and unskilled level in other trades. 4. Supervising semi-skilled and unskilled labor, including offenders to assist in completing tasks. 5. Following oral and written instructions. 6. Performing heavy physical tasks for extended periods of time. 7. Understanding and working from sketches or penciled drawings. 8. Reading and interpreting building codes and blueprints.

Requirements

  • High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma AND two (2) years of progressive experience in the assigned trade areas; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • May require current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations Part 82, Subpart F.
  • Meet Criminal Justice Standards requirements (12 NCAC 09G .0302)
  • Pass a criminal background check
  • Produce a negative drug screening result
  • Successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations
  • Possess a valid driver’s license

Nice To Haves

  • Documented working knowledge of commercial/industrial maintenance.
  • Functioning at two journey levels, one for mechanical/plumbing and the other preferably HVAC/refrigeration while performing at the semi-skilled and unskilled level in other trades.
