About The Position

The North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources (DNCR) is seeking a Maintenance/Construction Technician II for NC State Parks. This role involves hands-on work maintaining grounds, buildings, facilities, and equipment. Responsibilities include custodial tasks, boundary line clearing, routine maintenance, trail maintenance, trash collection, mowing and trimming, prescribed burn assistance, and auto mechanics. The position offers the opportunity to work outdoors and with your hands, contributing to the stewardship of North Carolina's natural and cultural resources.

Requirements

  • High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma AND one (1) year of progressive experience in the assigned trade areas OR An equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license issued from within the United States or be able to obtain one within 90 days of employment.
  • Within 12-24 months of hire date, must have the ability to obtain and maintain: Class A CDL, CPR Certification, Emergency Medical Responder Certification, Wildland Fire Suppression Certifications, Certified in S-112 Chainsaw Operations Training - perform hazardous tree assessments and if necessary, tree removal within the park.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated work experience performing trades in at least two of the following: carpentry, plumbing, electrical and/or auto mechanics.
  • Demonstrated experience in performing grounds maintenance/landscaping.
  • Demonstrated experience in performing maintenance on buildings, facilities, and grounds maintenance equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Performing a variety of semi-skilled tasks in a trade such as plumbing, carpentry, electrical, HVAC and facility maintenance, and/or auto mechanics.
  • Operating large and small equipment and/or tools.
  • Purchasing resources in accordance with state purchasing policies and procedures.
  • Maintaining records and preparing operational forms.
  • Assisting in housekeeping.
  • May supervise temporary and permanent staff, community service participants, and/or volunteers on special projects.
